Maxwell Young has won Event #6 at Circuit Horseshoe Tunica, $400 Pot-Limit Omaha. Young's triumph in this 124-entry event was worth $11,456 and gave him his sixth career Circuit gold ring.

Young, 34, from Portland, Oregon, arrived at Event #6's final table with a narrow lead over another prior ring winner, Blake Whittington, and the two began the day with more than half the chips in day. Though other tough veterans were in the mix, including Ari Engel and Terry Moore, the final ended up with Young and Whittington dueling for the win.

Young entered heads-up play with a significant edge and kept whittling away at Whittington's stack. The final hand found Whittington all in after an     flop. Whittington had     , for top pair and a pile of draws, while Young had       for the overpair and a smaller straight draw.

None of the draws came in, as the   turn and   river left Young's aces ahead to seal his win and career ring number six. Whittington's run was worth $7,082, while Engel earned $5,112 for third.

The pros always hold PLO rings in high regard and this win by Young was no exception, even though he doesn't consider himself experienced at the game. "It was really nice to win an Omaha event," he said. "I'm not really an Omaha player but I feel like I learned a lot while playing. I have a little bit of history playing the game, but I feel like I got a lot better mid-game."

Part of that was forced on him by the final-table draw, which put Whittington and Engel, whom Young figured were his most likely foes should he make heads-up play, in the two seats to Young's immediate left. As for Whittington, who had the other deep stack early on, Young said, "He got a little bit handcuffed. I won a couple of pots early and he lost a couple," changing the final's dynamic in the process.

Unlike many of the other prominent pros grinding away this week in Tunica, Young has already secured a seat into this fall's Casino Championship. The win was his first of this season, though, after he logged two wins on the 2017-18 tour.
