Asheville, NC's David Moses has won Event #12 at Circuit Coconut Creek, $400 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo (1 Day). Moses earns his first Circuit ring and a $10,591 payday after coming from well behind during heads-up play against nine-time Circuit ring winner Martin Ryan.

Moses, 36, who was born in Clover, South Carolina, faced an uphill battle at the final table. First, six-time ring winner John Holley held a large lead over the table, only to falter late. However, it was Ryan, looking for his fifth ring of the season, who then owned the dominant stack.

It stayed that way into heads-up play, with Ryan holding over three-fourths of the chips in play, but then Moses played back against the aggressive Ryan, while also getting the better of several huge hands. One such hand saw Moses with pocket aces against Ryan's pocket nines -- and the aces held. Another came in the event's final hand, when Moses rivered a flush while Ryan rivered a straight. The chips went in, Moses had Ryan slightly covered, and the victory was his.

"I've played with Martin a lot," said Moses. "And I got really, really fortunate and he got really unlucky in that aces-versus-nines hand."

Moses though, wasn't daunted, particular during heads-up play. He's a long-time online player with a fondness for HUNL (heads-up no-limit hold'em), and he thought it factored into his win. "As good as he is, I've probably played more heads-up matches. I knew I probably had an edge there," said Moses, even acknowledging Ryan's considerable skill.

The nice payday also marked the first time Moses has cashed in a Circuit event not held at Cherokee, NC, only an hour's drive from his Asheville home. Next time he visits there, he'll have a new story to share.
