Steven Snyder, of Charlotte, NC, has claimed his third career WSOP Circuit ring by taking down Event #5 at Circuit Harrah's Cherokee, $365 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed. Snyder's third ring and the winner's prize of $31,114 came after a drawn-out duel against fellow pro Robert Hankins.

By winning the title in this event, Snyder denied nine-time ring winner Hankins the chance to move into a three-way tie with Maurice Hawkins and Valentin Vornicu with the most career wins, at 10. Hankins, of Nashville, TN, settled for a solid second-place payday of $21,187.

Snyder entered heads-up play against Hankins with a 2:1 edge, then saw Hankins pull into a narrow lead through the first several hands. Snyder regained the lead in another series of smallish pots, then ground down Hankins' stack to the felt. In the final hand, Hankins moved all in for his last 15 or so big blinds with   , and Snyder called with   . The board ran out        , as Hankins took the lead on the turn before Snyder rivered the jack for the win.

Snyder's third Circuit ring also marks the 45th cash of his WSOP career, and it moves his lifetime WSOP earnings over $500,000.

Remarking on the small-pot duel against Hankins, Snyder said, "It's hand by hand. One decision at a time. He [Hankins] is a great player and he wasn't going to make many mistakes. I don't want to play any super-huge pots and gamble too much. I tried to whittle him down, and hopefully, have a big chip lead when I decided to gamble. And that's what happened."

Snyder almost wasn't around to make Day 2 anyway. In Level 15 on Day 1, he lost most of his chips in a monster pot against a player who rivered quad sixes to beat Snyder's three kings. The tough beat left him with about a half dozen big blinds at that stage, but he fought back all the way to the win.

Snyder plans to shoot for more success through the remainder of Circuit Harrah's Cherokee.

Complete results for today's finishers will be available later this evening.
