Event #2
No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry
Buy-In: $365
Total Entries: 567
Prizepool: $170,100
Minnesota poker pro Jeremy Dresch has won Event #2: $365 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry at Planet Hollywood for $35,723 and his first career WSOP Circuit ring. Event #2 featured four starting flights and a $150K guarantee. The tournament ended up drawing 567 entries and generated a $170,100 prizepool.
"It's pretty exciting," said Dresch about winning his first Circuit ring. "I was actually heads up a couple weeks ago. I didn't do very good. I think I lost in two hands."
Dresch was referring to his runner-up finished at the Potawatomi Circuit in early February. He ran deep in a $365 no-limit hold'em ring event, but lost to Richard Stevens heads up and had settle for the runner-up prize of $13,037. This heads-up battle went much better for Dresch. He was up against one of the greats in the game in JJ Liu, who has over $500K in WSOP earnings and over $3 million in career tournament earnings. This time Dresch was on the right side of the final hand and he defeated Liu in about five hands of heads up play. Liu, who was also playing for her first Circuit ring, earned $22,094 for her runner-up finish. This marked Liu's 45th career WSOP cash (38 WSOP, 1 APAC, 6 Circuit).
The tournament played out over four days. There were two starting flights on each Friday and Saturday. Day 2 of the tournament was on Sunday and 10 players came back for the Day 3 Monday. Dresch returned for the final day 5th in chips.
Dresch said that he had rocky start to Day 3 after facing some early aggression from his opponents. Cards started to come his way and he upped his aggression, and his stack started to grow. Dresch attributed some of his success to his ability to pressure opponent's that were too worried about the pay jumps.
"I think I was the most aggressive at the table, people were trying to ladder," said Dresch.
Dresch, 43, is professional poker player from Fridley, Minnesota. He is also a business owner. Dresch plans to play the remainder of the series including the $1,675 Main Event. Dresch can also be spotted in Vegas this summer. He said he will probably play about 20 events at this summer's series at the Rio.
This victory marked Dresch's 15th career WSOP cash (10 WSOP, 5 Circuit) and fourth final table. Dresch's largest career WSOP cash came in 2014 when he finished in 6th place for $61,068 in a $1,000 no-limit hold'em event at the summer series. That event was won by fellow Circuit grinder and seven-time Circuit winner Kyle Cartwright.
