California grinder collects first win at third final table in Lake Tahoe
After coming close twice before, Jonathan Libiran won his first WSOP Circuit ring. Libiran topped a field of 149 entries in Event #5, claiming the top prize of $12,516. It was his third final table appearance in the last four seasons at Harveys Lake Tahoe.
Libiran, 50, is a resident of Fremont, California by way of The Philippines. He was disabled on the job, so he has a little unexpected free time to play poker. He’s always in attendance when the Circuit comes to Tahoe.
Curiously, Libiran was playing this event on a complete freeroll after winning a promotional tournament hosted by a Bay Area real estate company. His prize was an entry into this event, and he parlayed that into a career-best score.
“I always do good in Lake Tahoe,” Libiran said after his win. “Every time I come down here, I finish fifth, second… and now first!”
All five of Libiran’s career WSOP cashes have come at Harveys Lake Tahoe, and three of them have culminated in final table appearances. This result, though, is the one he was waiting for.

They'll return to 3,000/6,000 blinds with a 1,000 ante, which trims the average stack down under 25 big blinds. The series' fifth gold ring and a top prize of $12,516 will go to the winner on Monday.

A total of 149 entries turned up for this $365 event, creating a prizepool worth $44,700. That money will be shared by the final 15players, with a min-cash worth $755.
The series' fifth gold ring and a top prize of $12,516 is reserved for the winner.
