Winston Ackerman goes from work to poker to champion.
MILWAUKEE (February 6, 2017) -- The World Series of Poker's newest champion is Winston Ackerman. Ackerman defeated a 324 players in Potawatomi's third event to win his first career gold ring. Event #3 was a one-day event that spanned 15 and a half hours over Sunday and early Monday morning.
In a long day of poker like in Event #3 managing fatigue and staying alert can be difficult, but the players that can do it the best usually come out on top. Ackerman was able to fight the fatigue well enough to win, despite being at a disadvantage. Ackerman did not sleep the night before the event. Instead, Ackerman was working. By the end of the tournament Ackerman had been up for about 33 hours straight.
"I had gotten off work yesterday morning and just checked the schedule online and I wanted to play a one-day event," said Ackerman.
Ackerman said he had a pretty hectic work schedule, so playing a one-day event was key for him.
"Throughout the tournament I was dozing off here and there. Then I went and got a Red Bull and something to eat and it kind of woke me up a little bit. At the final table I was pretty much awake," said Ackerman.
Ackerman's decision to ignore sleep and play the event was well worth the effort. His first place payout totaled $22,842. This was also Ackerman's first career WSOP cash. He said he doesn't get to play a whole lot of poker because of work, but tries to squeeze in a few tournaments in at his local casino on his off days.
Ackerman's plan to celebrate the victory is firstly to get some sleep. Ackerman will try to keep the run good going. He has eye on returning for next weekend's Main Event.

#3 was the third of 12 gold ring events on the WSOP Circuit schedule at
Potawatomi. The $365 No-Limit Hold'em tournament attracted 324 players generating a $97,200 prize pool. The
top 33 players were paid.
It was a one-day event. The tournament began at 11 a.m. Sunday and finished 2:30 a.m. Monday.

Winston Ackerman (pictured) has just won the third event at the Potawatomi World Series of Poker Circuit. The 28-year-old bested 324 players in the $365 No-Limit Hold'em (30-minute levels) event to
pocket $22,842 and earn his first career WSOP Circuit gold ring. He also
earns 50 Casino Championship points for his victory.

Event #3: $365 No-Limit Hold'em (30-minute) levels is down to unofficial final table of 10 players. The 10 remaining players are all guaranteed a payout of at least $1,708. The tournament is scheduled to finish tonight and it will award the winner $22,842, a WSOP Circuit gold ring and 50 Global Casino Championship points.

Event #3 has drawn a field of 324 entries to create a prizepool of $97,200. The top 33 finishers will make the money. At the top of the prizepool is the first place prize money of $22,842. In addition, the winner will receive a WSOP Circuit gold ring and 50 Casino Championship points. Everyone reaching the money is guaranteed a cash of at least $580.
The clock currently reads that there are 72 players remaining. They are going on a 45-minute dinner break now. When they return they will continue playing 30-minute levels until the tournament is complete.
