New York pro ties Kyle Cartwright for seventh on the all-time ring leaderboard.
Las Vegas, NV (August 29, 2016) — Vincent Moscati has quickly become one of the most successful players on the World Series of Poker Circuit. He was already in elite company having won five Circuit rings, but on Monday afternoon, the 32-year-old poker pro won his sixth ring to put him in a tie for seventh place on the all-time ring leaderboard.
Moscati outlated a field of 83 players in the $365 no-limit hold’em to add another ring to his trophy case and take home $7,968. He is tied with Kyle Cartwright with six rings and only trails Maurice Hawkins, Cory Waaland, Ari Engel, Chris Reslock, Valentin Vornicu, and Alex Masek on the leaderboard.
“The ring actually meant more than the money in this one for sure,” said Moscati after his win. “It feels good, though. Getting the ring feels good.”
The first day of play saw the original 83 entries play down to the final seven players before bagging up chips for the night. Moscati finished Day 1 near the top of the counts and had all night to think about his possible win.
The extra time to think about the situation didn’t bother him at all. He was able to stay calm and keep his nerves in check.
“It was just a normal day for me,” said Moscati with a smile.
Moscati’s rise to the top of the ring leaderboard happened in just a couple of years. During his first full season traveling the Circuit in 2014/2015, he won three rings at three different venues. He added another two to his name last season and is off to a good start to the 2016/2017 season.
Passing Masek to have sole ownership over the top spot isn’t Moscati’s main focus in poker. He has bigger goals in mind.
“It would be awesome to get it,” said Moscati of the all-time ring lead. “But I don’t think that’s my main goal. I’d rather win a bracelet than be the ringer leader. It would be a cool second if it does happen. I’m definitely going to try for it for sure.”
Moscati is a consummate grinder and can be found at most of the Circuit stops around the country. To the players who follow the Circuit, he is a threat, but to the casual poker fan, he is relatively unknown. As long as Moscati gets his way, he’ll keep it that way.
“I’d rather not be famous,” said the New York native. “I like going under-the-radar, especially when I’m in the casinos. I wouldn’t mind, obviously, if it happened in the Main Event or something like that, but I’d rather fly under-the-radar to be honest.”
When play resumed on Wednesday, Moscati got off to a good start and had a smooth ride until heads-up play began.
“I knew I had a pretty good shot today and I had a decent amount of chips coming in,” said Moscati. “I doubled up right away, so I had the chip lead right away. From there, it went pretty good.”
Moscati took the chip lead and had amassed more than half of the chips in play when there were four players remaining. He got into a little bit of hot water when he got heads-up with Kindah Sakkal.
“She got a pretty massive chip lead when we were heads-up,” said Moscati. “But I got pretty lucky and ran really good when we were heads-up. The cards just played out that way. She played really good.”
Along with his historic sixth ring, Moscati moves into three-way tie atop the Casino Champion leaderboard. Moscati earned 50 points for his win and is tied with Hayden Aalvik and Dale Beaudoin, who both won earlier events at this stop.
