DeJuante Alexander Wins First Circuit Ring and $18,519

New Orleans, Louisiana (May 22, 2016) – Today not only marked the day that DeJuante Alexander won his first World Series of Poker Circuit ring, it also marks his first win in a poker tournament.  The Texas native has been a professional poker player and started playing tournament poker three to four years ago, and while his poker resume is peppered with many deep runs, today marks the first win of his career. In addition to the coveted gold ring, Alexander will also take home $18,519.

Alexander entered the final table 5th in chips, right in the middle, however he immediately took the chip lead from Cory Waaland who Alexander said, “Is a great player.  We played three big pots right off the bat and I won all three. The biggest one, I opened with tens and he flat with ace queen, and the flop comes AQ10.”  That hand propelled Alexander into the lead, and he stayed there for most of the final table.  Alexander later went on to eliminate Waaland in 4th place.

Alexander is good friends with Tsu Yen, the player eliminated in 9th place. “Yen is from Houston as well, a really good friend of mine, and we play together two or three times a week.  It’s pretty cool to get to the final table with someone that you play with daily.”

One of the more interesting twists of the story has to do with the fact that Alexander almost never plays $365 events. “I normally just play Main Events.  Because of my flight I decided to play this $365.  This is actually the first $365 I have played this Circuit season,” explains Alexander, “I’ve played five Mains this season, but no other $365s.”

Alexander is hoping to take this win and keep the momentum going over the summer in Las Vegas.  He has a full schedule mapped out, and will be playing between 18 and 23 events.  Next week he plans to travel to see friends in New Jersey/New York.  “I like it up there so I’m gonna go spend some time up there, just to clear my head, get away from everything, and then jump into Vegas.”

At the conclusion of this event, as well as the Main Event that also finished today, it has been determined that David Slaughter has won Casino Champion of the WSOP Harrah’s New Orleans series.  Slaughter accumulated the most overall points in the twelve gold ring tournaments at Harrah’s New Orleans earning the title of Casino Champion and he receives an automatic entry into the $1 million 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship. The winner of the Harrah’s New Orleans Main Event winner David Hubbard also earned an automatic entry to the Global Casino Championship. All players who cashed in ring events received points that apply to both the Casino Champion race and the season-long race to claim one of the 50 at-large Global Casino Championship bids awarded to the top point earners throughout the season. It's a non re-entry event, so players have just one chance to make the money and points.

We will post the prizepool/payout structure as soon as its available after registration closes (beginning of Level 9). Until then, here is a look at this event's structure.
