The race for the Casino Champion is down to just three players, all of whom are currently in the tournament area. David Slaughter (pictured) is the man behind the wheel, as he only needs to move up one more spot in the Main Event to move his points total to 80, which is the amount the current leader Jeff Trudeau has. Slaughter would beat him in the tiebreaker, which is money earned.
Over in Event 12 though, Cory Waaland is still drawing live at the contest, though his chances are decidedly less good than Slaughter. If Slaughter finishes fifth or better and does not win the Main Event outright, it will be impossible for Waaland to catch him, but if Slaughter busts in sixth or seventh place, Waaland could pass him, but he would need to win his eighth career ring to do so. Should Slaughter bust in eighth place, Jeff Trudeau, who is on the rail observing the action, would need to fade a Waaland victory to take the Casino Champion honors.
If Waaland does pull off the longshot victory, it will mean he has qualified for the Global Casino Championship an astounding three times this season and would open up a 53rd at-large bid. Currently, it appears DJ Mackinnon is the last one in at 52nd place and Shawn Van Asdale would be the player taking the 53rd spot.
