Adrian Jimenez takes advantage of a small field to score his first gold ring.
Council Bluffs, Iowa (April 6, 2016) -- Adrian Jimenez has defeated an 89 player field in the Horseshoe Council Bluffs Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better event to earn $8,545 and his first WSOP Circuit gold ring.
"It's awesome. I have been wanting to win [a ring] for a while now. I am just a part-time player and I try to come out here whenever the Circuit comes to Omaha," said Jimenez about winning his first gold ring.
Jimenez has had a couple of close chances in the past at winning gold rings, but had never been able to close out the tournament. He has two seventh place finishes here at Horseshoe Council Bluffs since 2010. He said that it felt good to get the ring this time around.
Now two of Jimenez's four WSOP cashes have come in omaha tournaments. The other two cashes were in no-limit hold'em tournaments.
"I love PLO8. I used to play it online all of the time," said Jimenez. "It's one of my favorite games."
Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better is a game that Jimenez feels comfortable playing and he considers it a specialty of his. He showed his skills in full at this PLO8 final table. He entered the final table and Day 2 of the tournament as the chip leader and he was never was in danger of elimination once during the final table.
Jimenez attends Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska for software development. He is scheduled to graduate this spring.
Joining Jimenez at the final table was Doug Carli. Carli holds the record for the most WSOP Circuit cashes of all-time. Carli ended up finishing 5th and now has 105 career WSOP Circuit cashes. Also at the final table was Robert Wittman. Wittman finished 8th. Wittman final tabled both Omaha gold ring events at the series.
