Prize Pool: $28,200
Mark Fink becomes the 29th player in Circuit history to win four gold ring.
Council Bluffs, Iowa (April 1, 2016) -- Late Friday night in the back of the Whiskey Roadhouse, Mark Fink won his fourth career WSOP gold ring. He defeated a field of 141 players in Event #2 - $365 No-Limit Hold'em Bounty to earn $7,898. He also picked up eight bounties in the process to tack on another $800 to his earnings.
Fink became the 29th player in Circuit history to earn four gold rings. Other players to win their fourth gold ring this season include, John Holley, Andrew Robinson, Robert Hankins, Vincent Moscati, Cody Pack, Josh Reichard and Scott Stewart. The next step in the ladder is five gold rings and only nine players have reached that feat.
Fink considers this his home on the WSOP Circuit. He lives just a few hours away in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Fink's first career WSOP gold ring came at this property back in 2013. He won a turbo event to earn just over $15,000.
Fink has had an impressive 2016 on WSOP Circuit. This is only his fourth cash of 2016, but two of those cashes are victories and one of the others is a runner-up finish. In January Fink won his third gold ring at the Choctaw Durant series. His runner-up finish came at the Bally's series in February.
Fink was one of the short stacks at the beginning of the final table and he remained as one of the short stacks for most of it. It wasn't until three-handed play that Fink was able to work his way off of the bottom of the chip counts. It was a long final table. Eliminations were slow at the beginning and heads up play lasted a long time too. Fink entered heads up play against Brandon Cummins with a 5:1 chip lead, but Cummins stood strong and brought it to even in chips at one point. Heads up play ended up lasting 90 minutes long.
"It was really long. I never expected to get to this blind level," said Fink about the final table.
There were less than 50 big blinds in play when the tournament ended. This marked Cummins fourth career WSOP Circuit cash. It also marked the second consecutive year Cummins recorded a second place finish at this property. In the 2015 Council Bluffs series Cummins finished runner-up in a turbo event.
This victory earns Fink 50 Global Casino Championship points, which brings his season total to 167.5 points. That should be more than enough points for Fink to earn an at-large bid to the 2016 Global Casino Championship. This will be the third consecutive year Fink has attended the event and he is still looking for his first cash in it.
"I love playing Council Bluffs. I am really blessed to be here," said Fink.
He intends to play the remainder of the series here in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
