Bell Gardens, Ca. (March 23, 2016) — Los Angeles is synonymous with the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, so it only seems fitting that a former film producer takes home a World Series of Poker Circuit ring at the Bicycle Hotel and Casino.

Susie Genard, who spent most of her professional career in the film industry, took home her first ring and $10,490 after besting a field of 125 players in the $365 Omaha 8 or Better event.

This is Genard’s first win at a WSOP event and the first Circuit event she ever played.

“It’s very exciting,” she said after her win. “I’ve never played a WSOP Circuit event before. This is my first one.”

This is Genard’s first Circuit event, but she isn’t new to poker. She has tournament cashes dating back to the late ‘90s mostly in non-hold’em and mixed events. Her tournament experience has almost exclusively come in higher buy-in tournaments.

Her motivation for playing this event was mostly because of her desire to win a ring.

“I usually only play bigger tournaments,” said Genard. “You pretty much have to win to make it worth your while in the small tournaments, which worked out okay today, but I really wanted a ring.”

Away from the felt, Genard was able to mix some business with pleasure, producing a documentary chronicling life on the poker tournament trail. It came out in 2006 and was the last film that Genard was involved in from a production standpoint before stepping away and starting some consulting work.

While she walked away from the film cameras, she continued to make her presence known on the felt, which culminated in her win on Wednesday.

“I haven’t gotten there yet at the World Series,” said Genard about falling short of winning a Bracelet. “So I figured this would be a good setup.”

At the final table, Genard put forward a dominating performance. When they re-drew for seats at the final table, Genard was neck-and-neck for the chip lead. She never found herself short on chips and eventually ended heads-up with Beltran Abad.

Genard made quick work of Abad to secure the ring and another score to her tournament resume. She picks up 50 points and moves into a four-way tie atop the Casino Champion leaderboard with her win.

After 16 levels of splitting pots, the 125 players who put up the $365 to play the only non-hold'em event of the series has been slimmed down to the final 22.

Everybody is chasing Beltran Abad, who brings a massive chip lead into Day 2. He finished the day with 179,000 and is the only player with a six-figure chip count. He has nearly double his closest competitor, which is Fabian Kunning with 94,000.

Claude Purches is fresh off a final table appearance in the $365 no-limit hold'em re-entry event and continued his success by making Day 2 in this event. He is near the bottom of the chip counts with 30,000 in chips. A complete listing of chip counts can be found in the "Reports" tab above.

The final 22 players will come back on Wednesday at 2 p.m. to play down to a winner. Cashing will be on the forefront of everybody's mind with only the top 15 spots taking home a payday.
