Tamer Korman won Event #2: $580 No-Limit Hold'em at Bally's Las Vegas
Las Vegas (29 February 2016) – Tamer Korman won his first World Series of Poker Circuit ring Monday night at Bally’s Las Vegas. Korman won Event #2: $580 No-Limit Hold’em, earning $19,459.
The win is the icing on a special cake for Korman. He’s here in Las Vegas celebrating his 50th birthday. “This week is my own birthday present to myself,” he said. And he just added another gift to himself of almost $20,000.
Korman was very close to being eliminated earlier. With five players left, he has his aces cracked and was knocked down to about 60,000 in chips. The leader at the time had about 1,300,000. But Korman battled back and ended up on top.
Even though this was Event #2, it was the first ring awarded at this Circuit stop. The final table of Event #1: $365 No-Limit Hold’em was still in progress when Korman secured his victory.
The tournament nearly played to completion Sunday night. It started at noon on Sunday with 139 players, and it was scheduled to wrap up for the night at about 1:30 a.m. At that time there were three players left. The tournament staff allowed them to continue playing after a unanimous vote, so play continued. But after Keith Ferrera was eliminated in third place ($8,682), Korman and Ed O’Connell chose to stop for the night and resume on Monday.
At the time, Korman held a sizable lead, with a chip stack roughly twice as big as O’Connell’s. After about an hour, Korman collected the last of his opponent’s chips, and O’Connell was eliminated in second place ($12,028).
