Doug Polk Leads No-Limit Hold'em Six Max Championship Final Day
The penultimate day of the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six Max Championship saw 102 players burst through the money bubble and down to the final two tables.
Doug Polk leads the final 12 players after finishing the day with 1,443,000 in chips. Kenneth Fishman is the only other player above the million chip mark with 1,200,000 and has a sizable lead over his next closest competitior, Paul Volpe with 896,000.
When play began, everybody was thinking about making the money, but there was lots of play before the final 30 players earned a payday. Greg Merson, Jake Cody, Darren Elias, Ian Ohara, Phil Hellmuth, Ryan Julius, Antonio Esfandiari, Shannon Shorr, and Eric Wasserson were just a few of the notable players who hit the rail before the money bubble burst.
When dinner break rolled around, there were 36 players remaining and hand-for-hand play began at the beginning of the seventh level of the day.
After approximately 45 minutes of hand-for-hand play, Byron Kaverman eliminated Stephane Tovil in 31st place and secured the final 30 players a payday of at least $17,456.
After the bubble burst, the eliminations racked up quickly. In the first 15 minutes after the bubble burst, the field lost seven players and headed to the last break of the day with 23 players. The final two hours of play saw the field get cut in half again and was left with 12 players to come back on Friday afternoon.
Phil Galfond, Jeremy Ausmus, Bertrand Grospellier, David Benefield, Jonathan Duhamel, Kyle Julius and Faraz Jaka were just a couple top pros who busted before the day was over, but earned a cash before busting. A full listing of payouts can be found in the "results" tab.
Day 3 will get action kicked off at 2 pm and will play until a winner is crowned. Check back with WSOP.com for complete coverage of the day's action and a live stream on a 30 minute delay.
