Nick Maimone Finishes Atop Day 1B Field in Monster Stack
Monster Stack Players in Brasilia

More than 4,000 players flocked to the Rio Saturday for Day 1B of the $1,500 Monster Stack event, bringing the unofficial total of entrants to 7,192 for the event featuring a 300 big blind starting stack.

By the end of the second starting flight, Nick Maimone bagged up 240,200 chips, finishing atop the Day 1B field.

Maimone said he late registered for the event around 4:30 p.m. and was down to around 5,000 relatively early before chipping up throughout the day and adding about 60,000 over the last 15 minutes through a series of knockouts.

Also bagging up sizable stacks at the end of the day were Rick Basham (206,400) and Gary Bolden (203,000).

Notable players who bagged and tagged chips at the end of Day 1B include Annette Obrestad, Steve Gee, Kevin MacPhee, Jessica Dawley, Matt Salsberg, Barry Greenstein, and Scotty Nguyen.

Pros who couldn't navigate the 4,100 player field and were sent home early include Michael Mizrachi, Matt Glantz, Jackie Glazer, Anthony Zinno, and Jason Koon.

This year's Monster Stack field will fall short of last year's total of 7,734 players, but the event has still generated a $1,286,942 first place prize. Unofficially, there are 2,077 players returning for Day 2 action. They will move one step closer to the million dollar payday and a coveted WSOP gold bracelet. The top 720 players will be in the money with a minimum cash netting $2,815.

Chi Truong led the way in Day 1A bagging up 193,400, but Kevin Kung (193,100), Vitor Dzivielevski (187,100), Kiryl Radzivonau (185,000) and Joseph Cheong (184,400) were all close behind.

Players returning for Day 2 will begin play at 11 a.m. and are scheduled for another 10 levels. Follow WSOP.com Sunday for all of the live updates from Day 3 action.
