Ryan Van Sanford Leads Day 1A of Baltimore Main Event
Maryland's first ever World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event kicked off on Friday afternoon and 279 players put up the $1,675 with hopes of winning a Circuit ring.
At the end of 12, 40 minute levels, the field dwindled down to just 90 players with Ryan Van Sanford leading the field, bagging 159,100 chips. Joining him at the top of the chip count are Kenneth Zuspan, John Kostelac and John Moore, who finished the day with 152,400, 151,500 and 142,400, respectively.
Other well-known pros to make it through the day include Justin Liberto, Dj MacKinnon, James St. Hillaire, Casey Yontz, Amanda Musumeci, Darryll Fish and Austin Buchanan. Not everybody was so fortunate though, with plenty of pros falling by the wayside and busting before the final hand was dealt.
13-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth fired a bullet in today's flight, but was eliminated early in the day. According to his twitter, he will fire his second bullet on Saturday and look to earn his first Circuit cash.
Vinny Pahuja fired both of his bullets today and was eliminated on both of his entries. Other notables who were eliminated, but still have the option to play tomorrow afternoon include Ralph Massey, Jesse Cohen, six-time bracelet winner TJ Cloutier, Jake Schwartz, Dennis Phillips and Thomas Midena.
Day 1B will get cards in the air on noon on Saturday and play the same schedule as Day 1A. The survivors will combine with the Day 1A survivors and play Day 2 on Sunday at noon.
