He Felt it Coming! Glasscock Takes Down Event #5
Event #5 Champion Steven Glasscock
As Steven Glasscock walked into Hard Rock Tulsa Tuesday afternoon, “I Feel It Coming” by The Weeknd was playing over the parking lot speakers. He shot a quick video of the moment that he took as a sign, sent it to his wife, and told her that it was going to be his day.
Indeed, a first WSOP ring came to Glasscock just over an hour later.
To claim that ring and the $28,974 first prize, Glasscock defeated two previous WSOP Circuit ring winners, Daniel Hughes and Joshua Brower in a very quick restart of Event #5: $600 No-Limit Hold ‘em Super Stack.
The win is especially satisfying for Glasscock who has been on the verge of a ring in five previous WSOP Circuit events but had never come closer than second.
“It’s very sweet. I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time. I’ve played heads-up for a ring and final tabled several WSOP events... so it feels good.”
Glasscock eliminated Brower on the first hand of the day and then completed his triumph shortly after as his held up against Hughes' in an all-in confrontation preflop.
Glasscock said that entering the final table, he knew that duo of Circuit ring winners would be his toughest competition.
“I was pretty nervous, especially with Daniel and Josh. They’re really good players and if they apply pressure, it’s tough to play back against them, so I just stayed calm and relaxed and decided not to chase hands and waited to pick my spots.”
Once he started picking up momentum at the final table though, including a big hand near the end of the night where he doubled through Hughes to take the chip lead, the butterflies were long gone.
“I felt confident, because I started running good even before that hand. I was down to like maybe three bigs somewhat late in the tournament. Around dinner time I started to chip up and really catch some hands.”
Glasscock adds this WSOP Circuit ring to a Rungood Series ring in his trophy cabinet, and the $28,974 is a career-best tournament score. With those prizes also comes a seat in the 2024 WSOP Tournament of Champions.
For now though, Glasscock says he’s hopping right into Tuesday’s Mystery Bounty event to improve on his 4th place result in that event last year.
