Ronnie Sewell wins second ring, dedicates it to late brother
Just over 11 hours separated the start of Event 3 and the final hand. Ronnie Sewell was the most experienced player at the table, and only ring winner, and when it was all over, Sewell was choked up with emotion.
Sewell dedicated the win to his brother Tony Sewell, who passed of throat cancer two years ago. Tony is a Cherokee legend, claiming the Casino Champion title in 2015 and 25 of his 33 cashes came here in the mountains.
"I would have traded all the prize money for the ring," Ronnie said. "It feels great but my younger brother had two rings from here so it means a lot to me get number two."
"It's pretty hard to swallow right now. It's pretty emotional," Sewell said. "I'll be here through the Main - I had a good run here last year where I took second in the Main. I hope to repeat that."
Sewell began his day in the 11:00 am flight of Event 2, making for 16-hour plus day.
