A field that was built up to 467 over the course of 2 flights, saw a massive prizepool of $154,110 to pay out a total of 71 spots. This morning saw 25 players return to play down to a winner and claim the WSOPC ring as well as the $30,344 up top.
From the shortest stack to the biggest stack, Bret Karr received a very friendly birthday wish as he claimed his first WSOPC bracelet in Event #8: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Double Stack.
"Trinkets are pretty nice on your birthday," the new champion joked beaming with pride. The final hand involved his queen-jack against Mika Evans' ace-queen. A straight on the turn for the queen-jack saw Karr as he shook hands with his opponent, claiming his new title.
"This is my first ring, so it means absolutely everything to me and all the pressure is off now."
Karr talked a little bit about his history with poker.
"I have been playing on and off for about 20 years, been really concentrating more in the last 6 or 7 years," he continued. With this win, he wins a seat to the WSOP 2024 tournament of champions freeroll.
"That's a good reason to travel out to vegas," Karr went out of the tournament smiling with his new title as he walked off to celebrate his birthday.
