Two days of the only mixed game on the WSOPC saw a field of 134 be reduced to just 12 coming into the second day. Play lasted for just under five hours on the second day, but a winner was crowned at The Hard Rock Casino.

With Ari Engel heads up for his 16th WSOPC ring, it took only a few hands for the chips to all get in with Engel’s top pair, top kicker, to get in against Phil Tanner’s flush draw. The board ran out with an ace of clubs on the river to give Tanner the flush leaving Engel to finish runner up for $7,283 while Tanner took down his first WSOPC circuit ring as well as $11,786.

“He’s a tremendous player,” Tanner said about his opponent heads up, “He has a great poker temperament, great hand reading skills, all around very solid. I caught a card against him on the river.”

The 74-year old St. Charles resident talked more about his experience with this format of the game. “We play a lot of Big O in Missouri, it’s very popular. It is gaining in popularity throughout the country. Players who like Big O are coming to play it. It’s very popular in Texas.”

Tanner continued to say he does not play Hold’em, but would be sticking around to play the very big cash games at the WSOPC Tulsa.
