Eight Players Return for Day 3
Jeremy Meacham (left) and Johannsy Joseph
Ledyard, Conn. (28 August 2016) – The Main Event of the World Series of Poker Circuit at Foxwoods is down to eight players. And for two of them, there is a sense of déjà vu in the air. Johanssy Joseph and Jeremy Meacham are at the final table of the Circuit Main Event here for the second consecutive year. Last August, Joseph nearly took down the title, eventually finishing runner up. And Meacham was right there with him at the final table. He finished in sixth.
As it happens, the winner of that event last year, Samuel Taylor, also made a deep run this today. He was eliminated earlier tonight in 19th place. On top of that, the winner of the Main Event here prior to Taylor just barely missed out on the final table today. David Kluchman, who won this event in May, 2015, finished in 17th place.
The final table resumes Monday at noon. Johanssy Joseph and Jeremy Meacham will be joined at the final table by Muhammad Abdel-Rahim who returns as the leader with 2,900,000 in chips. He’s well ahead of the second-place player, Long Tran, who will return with 1,130,000. Meacham is in third with 1,100,000, and no other player is in seven-figure territory.
Also advancing to Day 3 is Sean Carlson, who finished runner up in the re-entry event here last weekend, just barely missing out on his first WSOP Circuit ring.
Day 2 began at noon on Sunday with 80 players out of a starting field of 460 entries. The top 54 players made the money, and they reached the money shortly before the end of the second level of the day. The bubble burst when Jaime Kaplan was eliminated by Laurie Hilton.
Within a few hours, over half the remaining field had been eliminated, and there were only 20 players left by the time they reached the dinner break. After another four hours and 12 eliminations, there are eight players still in contention.
Players eliminated in the money include Jose Montes (22nd place), who won the Circuit Main Event at Choctaw in January, Tim Reilly (23rd place), Mike Nye (35th place), David Cossio (38th place), Eric Rivkin (48th place), and Je Wook Oh (53rd place).
The tournament began on Friday with Day 1A. There were 162 entries that day, and 30 players survived. There where another 298 entries on Saturday for Day 1B, and 50 players made it through to the end of the day. Those 80 players combined into a single field today, and the eight remaining players will return Monday at noon to play down to a winner.
Here are the remaining players. Check the Results Page for full results so far.
