With a 10 a.m. start, it's not uncommon to see many players strolling in late. The opposite is true for Carlos Mortensen, who is up and at it early.

On a board reading     , with about 3,000 in the pot, the player in early position bets out 1,200. Mortensen calls.

The river is the  . The early-position player bets out again, this time for 2,200. Mortensen starts cutting out chips, and pauses before tossing in the exact amount for a call. His opponent shakes his head, and turns over   . Mortensen tables    and rakes in the pot. 

The early-position player says, "Almost. You almost folded."

Mortensen smiles and says, "It was 50/50."
