MAIN EVENT FIELD TRIMMED FROM 282 DOWN TO 139
More than half the field that started Day Five is now gone. Much like the first level of action, Levels 21 and 22 continued to eliminate players at a steady clip – as the tournament was trimmed from 282 players down to 139 at the dinner break. Tournament officials expect the end-of-day survivor count to be around 100 players.
Unofficial top five chip counts. A complete list of counts is available on WSOP.com:
1. Kyle Keranen - 5,662,000
2. Robert Salaburu - 5,401,000
3. Gaelle Baumann - 4,034,000
4. Erik Hellman - 3,911,000
5. Paul Volpe - 3,866,000
NOTABLE PLAYERS REMAINING (TOP THIRD OF FIELD):
Perry Green began the day as the most senior player remaining in the Main Event. At age 76, Green was very much in contention. Green – a three-time WSOP gold bracelet winner -- is best remembered as the runner-up to the late great Stu Ungar in the 1981 WSOP Main Event. Now, 31 years later Green is still just as competitive. Green performed the traditional “Shuffle Up and Deal” announcement prior to the start of Day Five. He thanked two people during his announcement – Jack Binion and his wife of 56 years who was at his side. Green exited the tournament in 152nd place.
