TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SEATS UP FOR GRABS IN COUNCIL BLUFFS
Council Bluffs, Iowa (April 9, 2013) — The WSOP Circuit returns to Horseshoe Council Bluffs for the seventh consecutive season beginning April 11 and running through the 22. In that time, 12 new WSOP champions will be crowned over the course of a dozen gold ring events. On top of thousands of dollars in prizes, two berths to the WSOP National Championship Presented by Southern Comfort 100 Proof will be awarded.

As with previous stops, one seat will be presented to the Casino Champion and another to the Main Event champion, but dozens of other players hope to earn their way into the National Championship via Council Bluffs as well.

For the last couple years the Council Bluffs series has been positioned toward latter half of the WSOP Circuit schedule and it historically attracts many players looking to move up the points ladder prior to the National Championship. The fields are typically more manageable than the record-obliterating fields of Horseshoe Chicago or Choctaw and attract many players who are “points chasing”. With just four stops remaining, the race to New Orleans and the National Championship is down to the nitty gritty.

The National Championship takes place at Harrah’s New Orleans May 22-24. As many as 200 players will compete for as much as $2,000,000 in prizes and a WSOP gold bracelet. Additionally, the tournament will be filmed for ESPN. More information on this one-of-a-kind event is available on WSOP.com. A list of players who already qualified for the event is also available on WSOP.com.

Points-eligible events begin in Council Bluffs April 11 with a $365 No-Limit Hold’em tournament. Other notable events include a $365 No-Limit Hold’em Re-Entry event Saturday April 13 at noon and 5 p.m. and a $365 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event April 16.

The $1,675 Main Event begins Saturday, April 20 with the first of two starting flights at 12 p.m. The second start flight begins at 5 p.m. The final table, scheduled to play out Monday, April 22, will be streamed on ESPN3.com.

Last year’s series saw Nebraska-based political strategist Michael Nellis record two runner-up finishes en route to securing Casino Champion honors and a seat in the National Championship. The Main Event winner, Scott Stanko, followed up his six-figure score in Council Bluffs with a final table appearance just two months later at the WSOP in Las Vegas.

There are various lodging options for players in the Council Bluffs area including the Hilton Garden Inn which is attached to the casino. More information on the property as well as its accommodations is available on the Horseshoe’s website.
