Shuffle Up and Deal!

The four most famous words in poker, uttered by one of the most famous men in poker, kicked off the 2008 World Series of Poker just moments ago at the Amazon Room at the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino.

“Shuffle up and deal,” announced 10-time WSOP bracelet winner Doyle Brunson, after being introduced with a serenade from the University of Las Vegas-Nevada marching band.
The first tournament, the $10,000 World Championship Pot Limit Hold’em event, started with a field of 350 players with some of the biggest names in the game taking part. Some of the players joining Brunson are Allen Cunningham, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel, Bill EdlerDaniel Negreanu and Barry Greenstein.

Also in the field was another player with impressive World Series credentials. 1998 World Series MVP Orel Hershiser found himself at a table with Phil Ivey in the early stages of the tournament.
