Abdellatif Takes Chip Lead in $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em; Kornuth, Boeree, Glantz, and Hellmuth Bag Big Too

After twenty levels, play has ended in Event #71: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (30-minute levels) and only 39 players out of the 452 entries in total have managed to find a bag to tag. All those entries created a total prize pool of $2,101,800 and the winner tomorrow will walk away with $485,082 for first place and the coveted gold WSOP bracelet.

Jonathan Abdellatif takes the overnight chip lead with 754,000 in chips. This is Abdellatif's 4th WSOP cash this summer, of which one was fourth place in Event #54: Big Blind Antes $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em. Trailing in second place is Markus Gonsalves with 722,000, who has also reached his fourth cash for this summer with a final table in Event #61: $1,000 WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold'em Championship.

Closing the podium for today is Chance Kornuth with 622,000. The two-time bracelet winner has been having a pretty good summer. This is his seventh cash this series, which includes his second bracelet win in Event #63: $3,200 WSOP.com ONLINE No-Limit Hold'em High Roller. Paul Hoefer (579,000), Liv Boeree (534,000), Steven Wolansky (498,000), Matt Glantz (473,000), Phil Hellmuth (468,000), and Antoine Saout (410,000) are just a few of the many super stars in the poker world that have made it through to Day 2.

Some of the players that weren't that lucky but did make the money include Cliff Josephy, Ben Dobson, Aleksandr Gofman, Sergio Aido, Lander Lijo, Greg Merson, Chris Ferguson, Tom Cannuli, Ian Steinman, David Yan, and Pascal Hartmann.

Some of the players that did enter today but weren't allowed to make a trip to the payout desk included defending champion Christopher Brammer, Pierre Neuville, Vojtech Ruzicka, Bryn Kenny, Mike Leah, Vlad Darie, Stefan Schillhabel, Joe McKeehen, Eric Blair, Scotty Nguyen, Frankie Flowers, Fedor Holz, Ben Yu, Ankush Mandavia, Chris Moorman, Maria Konnikova, Sam Cohen, Dan Shak, Damian Salas, Joseph Cheong, Shaun Deeb, Jesse Sylvia, Heidi May, Loni Harwood, Adrian Mateos, Jonathan Duhamel, Alex Foxen, Taylor Black, Scott Margereson, Justin Bonomo, and many many more.

Day 2 will restart at noon local time, Wednesday, July 11. Level 21 will feature a small blind of 6,000, big blind of 12,000 and a running ante of 2,000. The 39 remaining players will all be guaranteed at least $9,747 and the action is expected to be fast and furious again.

Gonsalves Takes Chip Lead

Markus Gonsalves raised to 25,000 from early position and was only called by the player in the big blind.

The flop came     and Gonsalves called the 50,000 bet of his opponent.

The turn was the  , now Gonsalves called the 100,000 continuation-bet of his opponent.

The   on the river completed the board, Gonsalves' opponent now checked. Gonsalves himself tanked for a bit and then decided to shove. His opponent looked at his cards once more and then folded.

Virani Takes Ferguson Out

The flop read     and Chris Ferguson shoved from the big blind for around 120,000. Mohsin Virani, in late position, snap-called.

There was already a pot brewing when the board read     . Chance Kornuth was facing a 100,000 bet from the big blind and called it after some thought.

The river was the   and the big blind checked. Kornuth bet 118,000 and his opponent folded after long thought.

"Show it!" he begged and Kornuth obliged by revealing    for a straight.

Boeree Bursts Bubble by Eliminating Teanotoga

Joseph Teanotoga shoved all in from the under-the-gun position for 19,000 and was called by Cliff Josephy in the cutoff and the player in the small blind. Action was now on Liv Boeree in the big blind who also shoved for around 350,000. Josephy tanked but folded in the end, so did the player in the small blind.

With the bubble in play, Jonathan Abdellatif bet 13,000 on an     flop and 27,000 on the   turn against Oliver Weis, who had defended his big blind. Weis called both flop and turn, and the   river got checked by both.

Wong Doubles on Bubble

The player in late position raised to 21,000 and Ralph Wong called in the big blind.

The flop came    , Wong check-called the 21,000 continuation-bet of his opponent.

The turn brought them the  , now Wong, check-called the 35,000 bet of his opponent.

The river completed the board with the  , Wong checked for the last time. His opponent now put him all in and Wong tanked.
