Dietrich Fast
It has not been an easy task, but Dietrich Fast has managed to get rid of his heads-up opponent after 108 hands over 4h30.
Fast came back today as the 5th stack of the final table with 31 big blinds and managed to navigate this final table to the end. John Gale finished runner up. He started the final table as the chipleader with 121 big blinds. It took almost 12 hours to through this final table that started at a rather slow pace with every player being very focused on taking home the prestigious bracelet and the €157,749 prize money for first place.
Adrian Apmann was one of the active players with his small stack in the beginning but he did not manage to get paid although he shoved a couple of times early in the Day 3.
The first one to exit the tournament today was Harry Lodge who crashed with with Steve O'Dwyer's .
The 8th place finisher was Joern Winter who got knocked out by the only Brazilian player on this final table, Rodrigo Caprioli and Sandro Wuest followed soon after when his Queens got crushed by Vojtech Cervinka's in a dramatic battle of blinds.
The only time Apmann got called when he shoved was the hand he got eliminated with. He gets two calls by Cervinka and Caprioli and his could not beat Cervinkas Aces after the Brazilian got out of the way.
It looked like Steve O'Dwyer was heading for a deep run in this Day 3 but he doubled Fast in a blind battle before joining the rail shortly after when Caprioli took all of his remaining chips with top pair against a nut flush draw that never completed.
John Gale then took the lead before the dinner break and the Czech, Vojtech Cervinka, was the next player to leave the arena just two hands after play had resumed. He was eliminated by Caprioli, who hit the nut flush with a straight flush draw on the flop in an all-in confrontation.
Dietrich Fast got on a heater after the dinner break taking chips from Gale and then from Caprioli before eliminating the latter with Aces against in another successful all-in confrontation.
Over four hours later, he had all the chips, Gale was eliminated in second place, and Fast became the first WSOP Europe Oktoberfest champion.
