A whirlwind final table was not what we were expecting today but it’s taken just 91 rapid-fire hands to reduce our final nine to our champion -- Sweden's Henrik Johansson.
The 888poker player was a dominant force on Day 2, sitting with the chip leaders throughout, and he continued that form here on today’s final table.
Johansson overcame some tough opposition, including experienced pros Daniel Laidlaw (6th) and Daniel Weidman (4th), however the defining moment was with the elimination of Yaniv Botbol in 3rd place. The chips went in on the turn with Botbol catching a set of fours against Johansson’s kings, but a two-outer king landed on the river to give Johansson a big lead entering heads-up play.
From there, Johansson appeared in control, grinding down a gallant Adriano Torre-Grossa before the final hand unfolded with Johansson’s top two pair holding true against Torre-Grossa’s pair and straight draw.
Johansson wins his first WSOP gold bracelet, and the second one for Team888 this series, along with €129,700 in prize money. Congratulations!
Final Table Results:
1st Henrik Johansson - €129,700
2nd Adriano Torre-Grossa - €80,250
