Baker Drops Two Big Ones

Hands #51-#53

David "ODB" Baker lost a couple of hands just before the end-of-level break to knock him back down to just over 100,000.

First Baker raised it up in the cutoff, and Brian Brubaker reraised on the button. Baker called, then drew two, while Brubaker drew one. Baker check called a bet, and the same drawing and betting action happened on the second draw. The third time, Baker drew one, Brubaker patted, and Baker check called a third time. Brubaker showed the wheel:      , and Baker mucked his hand.

On the very next hand, Baker raised under the gun, and he was called by Eli Elezra in the small blind, and David Chiu in the big. The blinds both drew two, while Baker drew one. It was checked to Baker, who fired out, and both players called. Everyone drew one, and this time, Elezra fired out. Chiu folded, Baker called, and both players patted. Again, Elezra bet, Baker called, and Elezra showed      . Baker mucked, and his stack shrunk to 105,000.

Smooth Sailing

Hands #46-#50

After Brian Brubaker got a walk and David Chiu raised from the cutoff and won the blinds, Daniel Negreanu won a couple of hands in a row.

The first saw Negreanu betting after the second draw and chasing both David "ODB" Baker and Eli Elezra (playing from the blinds). "Queen smooth," said the tourney director "Red Bull" Robbie as Negreanu showed      .

On the next hand Negreanu raised the button and Chiu defended his big blind. Both took two cards, Chiu bet, Negreanu raised, and Chiu called. Both took one on the next draw, and Chiu check-called a bet from Negreanu.

On the third draw Chiu drew one, Negreanu stood pat, and both checked. Negreanu showed a jack smooth this time —       — and Chiu showed a   as he mucked.

Eli Elezra won the next hand versus Chiu, again with a "smooth" hand —       — and Chiu has now slipped under 300,000.

Baker Battling Back

Hands #42-#45

David Chiu raised under the gun, and David "ODB" Baker reraised next to act. Action folded back to Chiu, who called, then he drew one, while Baker drew two. Chiu bet out, and Baker called, then the same drawing and betting action occurred. On the third draw, Chiu stood pat, while Baker drew two. Chiu checked, and Baker looked at his cards, then fired out a bet. Chiu shook his head for a bit before tossing the call in after 45 seconds of thought. Baker showed      , and that was good enough to take down the pot.

Two hands later, Eli Elezra raised on the button, and Baker defended his big blind. Both players drew two cards, and they both checked. Elezra drew two again, while Baker took one, and he fired out. Elezra called, and both players drew one card, then checked. Baker showed      , and that was good enough to take down the pot.

Chiu Takes from Brubaker

Hands #38-#41

Daniel Negreanu raised from the small blind, Eli Elezra called from the big blind, then Negreanu took two and Elezra three. Both checked, then both drew two cards on the second draw, and this time Negreanu check-folded to an Elezra bet. Elezra showed he had       as he collected the chips.

David "ODB" Baker won the next hand with a UTG raise, and Elezra won the one after that with a button raise.

Then it was David Chiu raising from the button and Brian Brubaker defending his big blind. Brubaker took two and Chiu three, and when Brubaker bet, Chiu called. Brubaker then took one card and Chiu two, and when Brubaker bet this time Chiu raised and Brubaker called.

Brubaker took one on the last draw and Chiu stood pat, and both players checked. Chiu showed      , and Brubaker mucked.

Baker Below 200,000

Hands #34-#37

Eli Elezra raised it up on the button, and David Chiu called from the small blind. David "ODB" Baker called from the big blind, then Chiu drew one, Baker two, and Elezra stood pat. It was checked around to Elezra, who fired out, and both players called. The same drawing and betting actions happened again, and on the third draw, Baker and Chiu both drew one, while Elezra stayed pat.

Chiu fired out, and Baker folded. Elezra went deep into the tank, thinking for about 90 seconds, before saying that he was folding an eighty-seven. Chiu gave him a nod as if to say it was the correct fold, and Chiu took down the big pot.

Elezra Elevates to First Position

Eli Elezra

Hands #30-#33

Eli Elezra won three of these four hands, including a couple of decent-sized pots off of David Chiu to seize the lead away.

After Elezra won a raise-and-take hand then Brian Brubaker won a blind-vs.-blind hand against David "ODB" Baker, Elezra was raising from under the gun, Chiu three-betting from a seat over, and Elezra calling.

Elezra drew one then stood pat thereafter, while Chiu drew one card three times. Both checked after the first and third draws, with Chiu calling an Elezra bet after the second. Elezra then showed      , and Chiu mucked.

The next hand saw Chiu raising from UTG and Elezra defending his big blind. The pair battled through the three draws putting in a couple of bets each along the way, and when Elezra tabled      , Chiu mucked again.

Negreanu Gets Chiu Back

Hands #25-#29

This sequence was highlighted by a hand in which Daniel Negreanu raised it up on the button, and David Chiu called from the big blind. Chiu drew one card, and Negreanu drew two. The fireworks went off here, as the two got in a raising war that saw Negreanu put out a fourth bet, and Chiu called. Chiu stood pat, and Negreanu said "I can't believe I'm breaking this hand," and flashed an   as he drew one. Chiu patted, and bet in the dark. Negreanu called, and the same drawing action occurred. This time, Chiu checked, and Negreanu checked his cards, and fired out a bet.

Chiu went deep into the tank, for about 90 seconds or so, before folding, hinting all the while that he had a seven. It's unknown whether he was saying a seven high, or the seventh best hand, but he eventually folded, and Negreanu showed      , confirming to Chiu that he made the right fold.

Chiu Grabs Lead from Negreanu

Hands #19-#24

After three hands passed without reaching the first draw, Daniel Negreanu won a few bets off of David Chiu in a hand that saw Chiu letting his hand go after the second draw, with Negreanu showing he'd made an       after Chiu folded.

The next hand saw those two involved again, along with David "ODB" Baker. Baker raised from under the gun, Negreanu three-bet from the button, Chiu four-bet from the big blind, and both Baker and Negreanu called. Chiu then took one, Baker two, and when Negreanu took just one card Chiu said "Ohhh… I was gonna bet dark."

Chiu did bet nonetheless, Baker called, Negreanu raised, and both Chiu and Baker called.

The second draw saw Chiu taking one, Baker two, and Negreanu standing pat. It checked to Negreanu who bet, and only Chiu stayed in the hand.

Chiu then took one card and Negreanu stood pat, and after both checked Chiu said "I think I got you" as he showed his      . Negreanu nodded that indeed, Chiu did get him, and mucked.

The last hand of the sequence saw Baker winning a small blind-vs.-blind hand off of Chiu who at the moment has seized the chip lead with five remaining.

Scott Seiver Eliminated in 6th Place ($23,698)

Scott Seiver

Hands #16-#18

Scott Seiver was able to notch a couple of double-ups, but his luck ran out, as he was crippled by Brian Brubaker, then eliminated by David Chiu, the same player who beat him heads up for a bracelet just three weeks ago.

In the first hand, Brubaker raised from the cutoff, and Seiver called from the small blind. Seiver drew two, while Brubaker drew one. Seiver check called a bet, then he drew one, while Brubaker patted. Seiver check called another bet, and the same drawing action occurred. This time, Seiver check folded to a bet from Brubaker.

On the next hand, Daniel Negreanu raised from the cutoff, and Seiver reraised from the button. Chiu called from the big blind, and Negreanu called as well. Seiver and Negreanu drew two, while Chiu drew one. Chiu bet out, and both players called, with Seiver calling off his last 7,000. Chiu stood pat, while Seiver drew one, and Negreanu two. Chiu bet, Negreanu called, then Chiu patted again. Both Seiver and Negreanu drew one, and Chiu bet out again.

"That good?" asked Negreanu, as he kicked his hand in, and Chiu showed      . Seiver just showed the  , and he got up from the table, wished everyone luck, then took off for the payout desk.

Seiver Doubles Twice

Hands #13-#15

Scott Seiver enjoyed two double-ups in this sequence of three hands, both through David "ODB" Baker.

The first one saw Seiver raising all in for his last 18,000 before the first draw, then drawing two and standing pat thereafter. Baker called from the blinds and drew three, two, then one. Seiver ended with a      , and Baker picked up a   on his last draw.

Then after Eli Elezra won a small pot off of Brian Brubaker in a hand that ended after the first draw, Seiver was raising again — this time from under the gun — and Baker three-bet from the button. Seiver called, and both took two cards on the first draw and then checked.

The second draw saw Seiver take one and Baker two, then Seiver bet all in and Baker called. Seiver stood pat and Baker took one on the final draw, with Seiver tabling an eight smooth —      . Baker ended up drawing to an      , and Seiver's hand was just a little better, enabling him to survive.

Seiver Down To One Big Bet

Hands #8-#12

There were a few small hands that led up to Hand #12, which saw David Chiu knock Scott Seiver down to just one big bet. Seiver started the action by raising on the button, and Chiu three bet from the button. Both players drew one, and Chiu fired out. Seiver called, then Chiu stood pat, while Seiver drew one. The same bets happened, and the same drawing as well. Chiu bet enough to put Seiver all in, and he peaked down at his hand before tossing it to the dealer.

A Flush for Negreanu; or, "Now I Know!"

Hands #3-#7

After David "ODB" Baker won the blinds with a button raise and David Chiu won a pot off of Scott Seiver without a showdown, Hand #5 began with a Daniel Negreanu button raise and a call by Eli Elezra in the big blind.

Both drew two on the first round, with Elezra betting and Negreanu calling. Elezra then stood pat as Negreanu drew one card twice. Elezra bet after the second draw and Negreanu called, then both checked on the end.

Elezra showed      , then Negreanu showed he'd actually made a flush —       — which you don't want to do in deuce-to-seven.

"Oh, a flush is bad?" said Negreanu afterwards. "Now I know!"

The next hand saw David Chiu get a walk in the big blind. Then Chiu and Baker tangled in a hand that made it to showdown, with Baker ultimately drawing a       to win the pot.

Brubaker Down, Then Up To Start

Hands #1-#2

Brian Brubaker was involved in the first two hands of the final table, and he lost the first, but then profited by winning a nice pot on the second one.

In the first Brubaker raised it up in early position, and David Chiu defended his big blind. Chiu drew two while Brubaker drew one, and Chiu check called a bet from Brubaker. Both players drew one card, and this time, Chiu fired out. Brubaker called, and Chiu stood pat, while Brubaker drew one. Both players checked, and Chiu fanned out       for a winning hand.

The second hand saw Scott Seiver raise it up from the hijack, and Eli Elezra call from the cutoff. Brubaker then three bet it from the big blind, and both Seiver and Elezra called. Brubaker stood pat, while Seiver and Elezra drew two. Brubaker bet dark, and both players called. The exact same draws and bets happened again, and Brubaker stood pat a third time. Seiver and Elezra both drew one, and it was checked through. Brubaker showed      , and he took down the pot to up his stack to 275,000.
