Event #60: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship

Nick Schulman opened to 48,000 from under the gun and received a call from George Danzer in the big blind. Both players drew one and checked after the draw.

"Ace," announced Danzer.

Schulman fanned the       and was able to drag in the pot.

John Juanda open-shoved his last 191,000 from the hijack seat, and Ashton Griffin re-shoved on the button. Both blinds released, and we were off to the draw.

"Draw," the dealer announced.

"What?" Juanda asked.

"Draw," the dealer repeated.

Juanda didn't realized that Griffin was on the button, and re-checked his cards. He flashed the   to one side of the table (one of our reporters saw it) and then tossed it away. The dealer burned a card, dealt a card face down, and slit it to Juanda.

By this point, Griffin had spread      , and Juanda turned over     , then stood up.

"I only have to beat a jack?" Juanda asked. "I can sit back down now."

"He's Asian," Nick Schulman announced. "This could take awhile."

"No," Juanda said after looking at his card.

He turned over the  , and looked confused.

"Did you give me the same card?" he asked the dealer, without the hint of a smile on his face.

Tournament Director "Redbull" Robbie Thompson and the dealer both verified that it was a different card, and Juanda was announced as the sixth-place finisher. Juanda stuck around for a few minutes, and requested that the staff check if the card was new, and not the one he discarded. After verification from the live stream, it was confirmed that Juanda was indeed given a new card.

Juanda will not being defending his title, but a fourth, fourth, first and sixth is still extremely impressive.

In one of the first hands back from break, Mike Wattel opened to 35,000 with the button. Benjamin Parker folded out of the small blind, and George Danzer three-bet jammed for effectively 300,000. Wattel folded.

"You got somewhere to go?" Wattel asked Danzer.

A few hands later, Wattel opened from under the gun, Parker called on his direct left, and the action folded to Nick Schulman, who jammed for effectively 350,000 from the small blind. Wattel and Parker both folded.

Two hands later, Parker opened to 35,000 from under the gun. The action folded to Ashton Griffin, who moved all in from the small blind. Wattel folded his big blind, and Parker folded to the three-bet.

Mike Wattel opened to 30,000 from under the gun, and Benjamin Parker three-bet to 90,000 on his direct left. The action folded back to Wattel, who called.

Wattel tanked, then checked, and Parker quickly checked behind, tabling      . Wattel mucked, and Parker pulled in the pot.

Action folded around to Mike Wattel and he popped it up to 30,000. It folded to George Danzer's small blind and Danzer moved all in for over 300,000.

"Why so much?" asked Wattel with a frustrated tone. Wattel mucked his cards and Danzer took the pot.

Mike Wattel raised to 30,000 on the button, and Benjamin Parker and George Danzer called out of the blinds.

The action checked to Wattel, who fired 60,000, and Parker quickly folded. Danzer went into the tank, however.

"I made it," he said, laughing. "Do you bet a ten-seven?"

Wattel shrugged, then re-checked his hole cards. Danzer found a fold, then Wattel shook his head, mucking the winner.

The action folded to Ali Eslami, who raised to 120,000 or so from the cutoff, leaving one yellow T1,000 chip behind as a card protector. Nick Schulman called out of the small blind, and the big blind released.

Schulman stood pat, Eslami drew one, and Schulman fanned      , thinking Eslami was all in. He was not, and when he received a   he folded his jack-seven face up. Schulman wasn't happy about what Eslami did, but Eslami said he does it in every tournament.

"I want the chip-and-a-chair story!" Eslami admitted. "I have a shot at something epic!"

The next hand, Eslami was all in with one-third of an ante, and the action folded to George Danzer, who raised to 20,000 in middle position. Nick Schulman called on the button, and Bob Bright called out of the small blind.

The action checked to Schulman, who fired 75,000, and Bright thought for a long time, then called. Danzer folded, and Schulman tabled      . Bright looked frustrated, and it's no surprise - he showed      , which is one card worse than Schulman's hand.

Schulman was pulling in the monster side pot, and Eslami announced that he was drawing live for the antes. He turned over   , then turned over a  .

"Still drawing live," he said.

Eslami turned over a  .

"Still drawing live."

The last card he placed on the far left, thinking it was a deuce, and it was no-sided, but it was an ace, eliminating him in ninth place.

We're now at an official final table, and play will resume in 20 minutes or so.
