Only a week or so after he finished 2nd to Kevin Stammen in a $2,500 No Limit Hold'em event, Angel Guillen has managed to outlast 1,533 other players to claim his very first WSOP gold bracelet.
Mika Paasonen came to the final table with the chip lead, as well as the heads up but the lead changed several times and Guillen had his opponent all in twice. Guillen managed to pick up cards where it mattered and won the crucial big pots that are so important in a one-on-one situation.
Finally, after an epic five hour heads up battle, the Mexican has won out in the early hours of the morning.
Congratulations to Angel Guillen!

We were starting to wonder whether this titanic duel would ever end but it has. A raise from Paasonen was called before
flop came down. Guillen led out for 250,000 before Paasonen moved all in and received an instant call.

The turn came

before Guillen's supporters on the rail went mad and mobbed him.
A word or two has to go to Mika Paasonen. He fought his way through his opponent's friends to congratulate his conqueror. After around five hours of heads up it's not nice to lose but he did himself proud by sticking in there despite being the short stack for most of the match.

Passonen below a million chips now.

Mika Paasonen is building back up over 3.6 million after winning a showdown with

Both players, perhaps showing signs of fatigue, have really stopped 3-betting so much and are playing much slower.

We're still on the same small-ball game with pots alternating in which direction they travel. The last two pots went to Guillen with the preflop three bet taking the first one. He made a wheel on the river on the second one but only called a river bet from Paasonen.

It's all become very much a raise/fold game now. Paasonen has managed to stem the tide from Guillen but it's still going to be very difficult as he's now 4:1 down in chips.

Meanwhile the Finnish railbirds are a lot more nervous, all sitting very quietly at the moment and barely saying a word.
Guillen seems to win all the big pots, he just check-called a bet on the turn of a
board before both checked the river. Guillen showed
to win another pot.

The last ten minutes has seen Angel Guillen keep control of this battle. The last four times Paasonen has min raised from the button only to lay down to a three-bet from Guillen. Is he trying to set something up or just getting outplayed? Time will tell
Guillen has 7,000,000 to Paasonen's 2,100,000.
Wednesday, June 17, 2009 9:12 PM Local Time
Angel Guillen raised to 125,000 and Mika Paasonen made it 425,000, only for the Mexican to make it a cool 1,000,000. Paasononen folded quickly, the Guillen fanclub went wild.
Guillen then called a 250,000 bet on the turn of a
board from Paasonen before the Finn checked the draw-making
on the river. Guillen bet 430,000 and Paasonen passed, only to be shown Guillen's

Angel Guillen looked like he was letting this heads up battle get away from him but two pots in a row have swung the pendulum back in his favor.
The first saw Guillen raise it up and get called before they both checked the
flop. The
turn saw Paasonen lead for 200,000 and get called. The river
saw Paasonen lead out once more and receive an instant call. Paasonen's
no good against
for a straight.

The next hand saw Guillen three bet preflop then lead out on a
flop. Paasonen called before the
turn and
river were checked through. Guillen showed
and took the pot as the Finn mucked.

Gradually both players are starting to reraise each other a bit more of the time. Mika Paasonen seemed to be doing it slightly more at first but the Guillen supporters are clearly encouraging their man to fight back as much as possible.
Immediately the next hand Guillen reraises out of the big blind and Paasonen instantly folds.
Paasonen has his own game plan too though, he just limped in and then reraised Guillen's 210,000 bet to 670,000. Guillen folded and the Finn showed
.
It's become a real battle of wills here.
