Mike Matusow is the champion of Event #18. This makes his third WSOP gold bracelet. "I want to thank all of my fans," said Matusow, as he was being interviewed by WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack. Matusow was clearly overwhelmed with emotion, though not quite to the point of tears. "I don't know much about this game," joked Matusow, "but I know no-limit. If I continue to play like I played this week, it's gonna be a real good World Series." That comment drew a rousing round of applause from all of the fans who stayed into the late hours of the night to watch Matusow's triumph. On the last hand before dinner, Matusow lost a huge chunk of his stack to Lisandro after betting a pair and getting called by Lisandro's ace-high. He came back from the dinner break with about ten big blinds in his stack. Just before play resumed after dinner, Matusow came over to our media table and started talking about the tournament. "It ain't over," he told us. He got that right.

Mike Matusow had the button and open-shoved all in. Jeff Lisandro made the call and announced he was drawing one. Matusow went into the tank and it was very clear that he couldn't decide whether or not to break his hand. Finally, he said, "I'm good." Lisandro: 9-6-5-3-x Matusow: Q-8-7-4-3 "It was a tough decision for me," said Matusow as he anxiously watched Lisandro squeeze out his card. Lisandro squeezed... a queen to make a Q-9. He is eliminated in second place and collects $347,004. The rally cap couldn't bring the gold bracelet for Lisandro.

During the period of action that saw Matusow winning hand after hand, one of Lisandro's friends brought him a hat for good luck. Lisandro quickly put it on and hasn't removed it since. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so just look to the right.

The best players in the game aren't just seated at the table. Several well known pros are currently seated in the Milwaukee's Best No Limit Lounge Area. Those currently watching the action include Phil Hellmuth, Greg Mueller, Perry Friedman, Dario Minieri, Cyndy Violette, Jean-Robert Bellande, Shannon Elizabeth, Kenny Tran, and Johnny Chan. Not too long ago Phil Hellmuth, who is for some reason dressed like a five-star general, stood up to stretch his legs and Perry Friedman quipped, "Who called security?"

Every time Jeff Lisandro climbs up through blind steals, Mike Matusow knocks him back down. In the latest hand, Matusow raised to 225,000 from the button. Lisandro called. On the draw, Lisandro took one card while Matusow took two. Lisandro then bet 175,000. Matusow thought about it for fifteen seconds before making the call. "Pair," said Lisandro. Matusow slammed over K-8-6-5-4 to take the pot.
Thursday, June 12, 2008 1:26 AM Local Time
In the first hand to see a draw in awhile, Mike Matusow raised to 200,000 on the button and Lisandro made the call. Both players drew two cards. Lisandro was first to act and he checked. Matusow, the most focused he's been all night, counted out 250,000 and pushed it forward. Lisandro tossed his hand in and Matusow stacked the pot.

For the last few hands, the big blind has been getting a walk. It seems Lisandro's stack is at that "all in or fold" place, while at the same time Matusow doesn't want to enter the pot with a marginal holding and risk doubling Lisandro up.
Thursday, June 12, 2008 1:13 AM Local Time
Just a moment ago between hands, one of Matusow's supporters shouted out, "Go Mikey!" Matusow peered in his general direction and began to sing, "Good things come...to those who wait."

Jeff Lisandro is the cockroach of this tournament. He just cannot be killed. He raised to 160,000 on the button and Mike Matusow made the call. Matusow drew one card. Lisandro stood pat. Matusow checked in the dark to Lisandro, who moved all in for 320,000. Matusow peeled his card. "I made my hand," he said. "I didn't want to make my hand." He tanked for about a minute, then decided to make the call. "Ten," said Lisandro. Matusow leaned over the table. "Ten what?" "Ten-eight," replied Lisandro. "Ten-eight what?" asked Matusow again. Both players turned their hands over. Matusow showed 10-8-7. Lisandro showed 10-8-5 to survive and double up back to about 1 million in chips.

Mike Matusow continues to hammer away at Jeff Lisandro. He open-shoved from the button, and Lisandro was forced to lay down his hand, flashing two aces before doing so.
Thursday, June 12, 2008 1:00 AM Local Time
Matusow raised to 225,000 on the button and Lisandro made the call. Both players drew one card. Lisandro was first to act and he bet 250,000. Mike Matusow took about 30 seconds and then announced, "All in." Lisandro gave up his hand fairly quickly and Matusow's gallery eruprted once again. Matusow, perhaps wanting to add a little fuel to the fire, proudly displayed the   from his hand as he mucked. Lisandro, apparently wanting to derail Matusow's momentum, showed a pair of threes proving that he was in fact beat. Despite the showmanship, Mike Matusow won the pot and left Lisandro with roughly 650,000.

Jeff Lisandro raised to 225,000 on the button, and Mike Matusow made the call. Each player took one card on the draw. Matusow then bet 200,000. It didn't take Lisandro long to make the call, but he was wrong to do so. Matusow showed J-8-6-5-4 and that was enough to win a big pot.

On the button, Jeff Lisandro raised to 150,000. Mike Matusow made the call and drew one. Lisandro stood pat. Neither player elected to bet after the draw and Matusow, as first to act, turned over a Q-9. Lisandro mucked. It was a curious play by Lisandro, standing pat on a Q-10 or worse and then electing not to bet it after the draw. Whatever the play, Matusow picked up another pot.
Thursday, June 12, 2008 12:28 AM Local Time
Mike Matusow can't lose. Jeff Lisandro raised the button to 175,000 and Matusow called. On the draw, Matusow took one card while Lisandro stood pat. Both players checked after the draw. "The Mouth" just picked up his fourth pot in a row. Here's how the action went down: Mike Matusow raised to 175,000 on the button and Lisandro came along for the ride. Each player took one. After the draw, Lisandro tossed out 200,000. Calmly and confidently Matusow announced, "Raise," and pushed an additional 500,000. Lisandro tossed his hand and the Matusow fan club did their thing.
Thursday, June 12, 2008 12:24 AM Local Time
Mike Matusow raised the button to 150,000. Jeff Lisandro called. On the draw, each drew one card. Jeff Lisandro then bet 150,000 after the draw. Matusow thought for about ten seconds before making the call with a J-8. It was good. "Yeah baby!" shouted Matusow, leaping out of his chair again. He ran into the gallery, high-fiving people along the way. All of this excessive celebration has got to be irritating Lisandro.

Jeffrey Lisandro raised to 200,000 from the button and Mike Matusow made the call. Matusow discarded one while Lisandro needed two more. After the draw, Matusow bet 200,000 and Lisandro made a quick call. Matusow turned up           and Lisandro mucked. Matusow's ever-growing gallery of fans applauded as Matusow did his awkward and off-balance victory dance.
