Andrew Wisdom hopes to be the first of many breakthroughs from a group of barely legal poker pros. The 23-year-old came out on top of one of the toughest fields of the series, beating a field of 71 entries in the $3,250 no-limit hold’em high roller event.

The San Diego native won his first ring and $72,420 after defeating Brandon Zuidema, another young pro and friend of Wisdom, heads-up.

Andrew Wisdom - Event #11: $3,250 High Roller Winner 

On the button, Brandon Zuidema open shoves all in for just over 500,000. Andrew Wisdom thinks for a bit, talks himself through it, then calls.

The flop comes down     which doesn't provide much help to Zuidema. The   drops on the turn though, giving him extra out to a straight. The river however is the   which changes nothing. With his ace-high Andrew Wisdom takes down the pot and locks up his very first World Series of Poker ring. For his victory Wisdom locks up $72,420. 


Brandon Zuidema - The Runner Up

Brandon Zuidema takes second place in this event and for his runner-up  finish he will collect $44,810.

Andrew Wisdom limps in on the button before Brandon Zuidema makes it 80,000 from the big blind. Wisdom calls and the two head to a flop.

On the     flop, Wisdom checks over to Zuidema. Zuidema puts out a bet of 70,000. Wisdom check-raises, making it 170,000 and Zuidema doesn't waste much time letting go of his hand. Wisdom takes down the pot and pulls further into the lead.

Brandon Zuidema limps in on the button for 30,000. Andrew Wisdom decides to raise from the big blind, making it 105,000 to call. Zuidema does call and the two head to a flop.

On the     flop, Wisdom checks to Zuidema who bets 65,000. Wisdom calls. 

The turn is the   and both players check. On the   river, Wisdom puts out a bet of 140,000. Zuidema thinks it over for a long time before frustratedly mucking his hand. With that pot, Wisdom retakes the lead.

On the     flop, Zuidema checks. Wisdom puts out a bet of 48,000. Zuidema then raises, making it 120,000. Wisdom thinks for a while, then calls. 

The turn is the   and Zuidema checks. Wisdom puts out a bet of 75,000 and Zuidema calls after giving it some thought. 

The river is the   and both players check. 

"I got really lucky," Zuidema says showing    for a rivered straight. 

"You had me on the turn," Wisdom jokes back. 

Zuidema takes down the pot as Wisdom mucks and assume the chip lead after that pot.

Brandon Zuidema opens from the button with a raise to 52,000. Andrew Wisdom calls from the big blind. 

The flop comes down     and Wisdom checks to Zuidema who bets 45,000. Wisdom calls. 

On the   turn, Wisdom checks again, then calls a bet of 80,000 from Zuidema. 

The river is the   and Wisdom checks a third time. This time Zuidema fires 170,000. Wisdom drops into the tank. 

"I didn't call the turn to fold the river," Wisdom says. "But that's super value heavy."

Wisdom thinks a bit more. 

"Will you show if I fold?" 

Zuidema doesn't say anything. 

Wisdom eventually decides to fold flashing the   and Zuidema takes down the pot, closing the gap a bit between the two players.

Andrew Wisdom moves all in from the button with a covering stack. Bradon Zuidema calls from the big blind quickly for his last 386,000.

The board runs out       which gives Zuidema a winning pair of kings to go with the aces on the board to win the pot and double up, pulling closer to Wisdom.

Action folds to the small blind where Ryan Van Sanford moves all in for 295,000. Andrew Wisdom peeks down at his cards. 

"I have a pair," Wisdom says.

"Pairs are very good in this game," Van Sanford replies.

"It's a small pair," Wisdom says before calling.

The board runs out       giving Wisdom a straight and knocking Van Sanford out of the tournament in 3rd place. Van Sanford will collect $29,495 for his run in the high roller.

"I can't," Van Sanford replies.
