Yevgeny Ganz - Winner of Event #4

Despite coming into the final table as the chip leader, Yevgeny Gans felt like an underdog the whole way.

“I just wanted to win because I’m probably never going to make a final table again,” Gans said about his victory. “I’m running good.”

On break during the four-handed portion of play, Gans gave himself about a 6-1 shot to win against the other players left in the field (Kindah Sakkal, Charles Welch, and Alexander Jun). And he overcame even more crushers before that as well, outlasting Justin Harvell and two-time ring winner Joshua “Plinko” Clanton.

“Don’t tilt,” is what Gans described his strategy as. “Let it come to you,” he said.

And it did come to him. Gans found himself winning every crucial moment. At one point, Ganz got it in against Clanton’s pocket queens with pocket jacks. To make matters worse, Clanton flopped a set, but Ganz went runner-runner flush and that propelled him back into the chip lead.

Gans described himself as mainly a five-card pot-limit Omaha cash game player, so making the shift to tournaments was a big adjustment for him. He said he might play a few more tournaments this series, but doesn’t plan on firing too much.

For his victory, Gans takes down $20,303 and his first World Series of Poker Circuit gold ring.
