Jonathan Poche
It wasn't until the last level that Jonathan Poche grabbed the chip lead in the Hard Rock Tulsa Main Event, but with some good luck he bounded from the middle of the pack to the top of the leaderboard. During that last level, Poche not only eliminated Susan Barlett when his king-jack outraced her pocket tens, but he also eliminated Wayne Lovell who was holding ace-queen against Poche's pocket kings. Poche found a bag with 379,000 in it and will return Sunday with the survivors from the other flights.
Some of the others returning to Day 2 include Joshua Turner, Justin Gardenhire, Colin Perry, Sergio Ramirez, and Charlie Nguyen. Nguyen started off the day quick flopping two pair against another player's top pair to nearly double and he never let off the gas after that. He tangled with Sergio Ramirez multiple times over the course of the day and picked off some big bluffs, eliminated multiple players and at the end of the night he found a bag with 314,000 in it, good enough for second place.
Players played 16 levels today and over the course of the first 12 levels, 91 players joined the tournament. At the end of the night, only 13 remained heading into Day 2. Some of those who fell today include the likes of Valentin Vornicu, Allen Kessler, Dan Lowery, David Hubbard, Hank Sitton, Pearce Arnold, Dejuante Alexander and the defending champion, Will Berry. Berry was eliminated when he moved all in with ace-nine against Shawn Roberts' ace-king and failed to catch up sending him to the rail.
Day 1B begins on Friday at 11 a.m. while Day 1C will kick on on Saturday at the same time. New players still have a chance to fire four more bullets on Day 1B or 1C and anyone who didn't make it through yet can still re-enter for a maximum of four total entries. Those who made it through Day 1A will return on Sunday at 12 p.m. WSOP.com will have updates from start to a winner so make sure you stay tuned in for all the updates.
