Jonathan Tamayo - Event #1 Winner
After four separate starting flights and an extensive Day 2, a winner has finally been deemed in Event #1: $365 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry. Jonathan Tamayo ultimately topped the field of 2,349 entrants, winning his third Circuit gold ring and $101,404. The Texas native adds to his lucrative stat sheet, which already possessed three, six-figure cashes before his triumph at Horseshoe Hammond.
Tamayo's second career gold ring stemmed from a Main Event conquest, coming in 2013 at the Palm Beach Kennel Club stop in Florida. The victory earned him $206,020. Needless to say, Tamayo is no stranger to the big stage. Although Tamayo can be seen on the Circuit tour, he more-so enjoys the annual World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Another one of Tamayo's big paydays, and largest to date, culminated in the 2009 Main Event World Championship. The, now, 31-year-old, finished 21st out of nearly 6,500 players, winning $352,832.
Although not as draining as the annual Main Event in Las Vegas, Tamayo's recent victory was could certainly be seen as a grueling one. Tamayo broke through Flight C with a solid stack. He then had one day off before entering, what would be, a long Day 2. The final table alone took just over five hours to complete.
In the end, it was Tamayo scooping the last pot against his final opponent, Daniel Kitzis. Kitzis took home $64,603 for his runner-up finish. Tamayo carried himself nonchalantly during the post-win proceedings. The modest poker player plans to stick around Hammond for the duration of the Circuit series. He takes an early lead in the Casino Championship race with 50 points, but there are still many ring events to come.
