Nikhil Gera
Nikhil Gera made his way to North Carolina all the way from California after qualifying for the Global Casino Championship via his win in the WSOP Circuit main event at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. He flew out a few days early and decided to take a shot at some preliminary events before jumping ion the stop's main attraction.
It turned out to be a good decision for Gera since he will be leaving Cherokee with at least one more Circuit ring to his name. He won his second Circuit title in the $365 no-limit hold'em with 20-minute levels just before the clock struck 5 a.m. on Sunday morning.
He bested a field of 659 players to win $40,354 and is already eligible for at least a direct buy-in to next year's Global Casino Championship with his win. His good friend from home, Kenton Payne, also made the final table, but fell in sixth place for $7,874. Gera came out on top of a see-saw heads-up battle against Ryan Reid, who earned his first WSOP cash in the event.
