Good morning from Harrah's New Orleans, and welcome to the home stretch of the 2016/2017 WSOP Circuit season. Today is Day 1A of the campaign's final $1,675 Main Event, the first of two starting flights available.
Players from Texas perform historically well in this building, and last year's Main was no exception. Angleton's David Hubbard outlasted the field of 785 entries one year ago, winning close to a quarter million dollars and his first gold ring. Hubbard is back in New Orleans with two cashes under his belt already, and he'll likely be in the field this morning to begin his title defense.
As was the case last season, there's even more than the money and the jewelry at stake this week. The complete field of qualifiers for the WSOP Global Casino Championship will be decided by Monday, and the Main Event winner gets one of the last two automatic bids. The rest of the field will be chasing points, with the Casino Champion here and the top 50 points earners for the season also qualifying for the Championship.
Here are the details for this flight:
- This is a four-day event
- Players begin with 20,000 in tournament chips
- Levels 1-15 are 40 minutes apiece
- Remaining levels are 60 minutes apiece
- Players may register or re-enter until the start of Level 13
- Players eliminated from Day 1A may re-enter flight A or B
- Players may only enter and re-enter once per flight for a maximum of four entries
- Day 1 flights conclude after Level 15
Cards go in the air at 11 a.m.
