March 23-24, 2017
Tulsa, Okla. (25 March 2017) — Salvatore DiCarlo became the latest two-time ring winner on the World Series of Poker Circuit Friday night. He won Event #8: $580 No-Limit Hold’em at the Hard Rock Tulsa, earning $29,502 for the victory.
It’s been about a year since DiCarlo’s first ring, and he feels he’s been waiting for the second one for a while. “It’s tough to finish a tournament,” he said after the event. “I’ve really been working at that. I have so many seconds, thirds, fifths. A lot of final tables, a lot of results, but I need to start closing these tournaments. So I’ve been working at having more patience at the final table.”
DiCarlo had a tough road to his second ring. When Day 2 began, there were six players left, and he was facing off against nine-time Circuit ring winner Maurice Hawkins, two-time ring winner Michael Sanders, current Casino Champion leader Joshua Evans, ring winner Phil Mader, and Marco Palacios.
“It was a tough field,” DiCarlo said. “I woke up at 4:00 in the morning and looked at the table draw for today. And I just started laughing. I didn’t know who was at it, even though I was playing with ‘em yesterday. Even though I was there, I was just focused on my own game. And I thought ‘These are the people still in!’ So it was a very tough final table. I respect those players a lot.”
The last day was even more difficult once DiCarlo found himself low on chips early in the day. “I got short real quick, so I needed to find a double. I got down to 15 big blinds at the very beginning of the day. Once I got that I felt like I was cruising a little bit. We got down to three-handed (against Hawkins and Sanders). That was a marathon. Those guys are really good players.”
Joshua Evans ended up finishing in fourth place. Even before this event Evans held the lead in the Casino Champion race, and he extended that lead with his performance here. He now holds 115 points, and the closest competitor is Michael Sanders with 72.5
