Soccerbaldy Takes One

Eric Baldwin has had an interesting past couple of hours. During our past dinner break it appears Faraz Jaka and Baldwin had a little competition outside with a soccer shoot out. He recently tweeted this.

We don't know how it turned out for sure, but it appears it may have gone in Faraz's favor.

Although he might not be crushing it on the pitch he sure is doing well for himself on the felt. We recently caught up to him playing a hand and here is what happened. After the table folded around to him, a player in middle position raised. Action then founds its way to Baldwin in the cutoff and he three-bet to 5,600. The rest of the table folded and it was back to the initial raiser, who four-bet to 11,500. Baldwin went into the tank for a good minute or so and then placed out a stack of orange chips that would put his opponent all in. Baldwin's opponent said "nice hand" and folded his cards.

Heinz Makes the Right Call

With 11,000 in the pot and a flop of , two players checked to the defending champ, Pius Heinz, who bet 3,600. The players in early position folded, while the other made the call.

Action went check-check on the turn, and then the middle-position player be 6,000. Heinz shook his head as if he didn't like it, but made the call nonetheless. Heinz's opponent was in no hurry to show and briefly flashed , prompting Heinz to roll over for the winner.

"It's funny," Heinz said while stacking his chips, "Every time a card comes that I don't like, I call anyways and I'm right."

Richard Toth opened to 2,000 from middle position, Katie Dozier three-bet to 4,700 from late position, and Toth made the call. The flop fell , and Toth checked. Dozier continued for 7,000, Toth check-raised to 19,000, and Dozier tanked before re-raising to 42,000. Toth moved all in for 112,000, and Dozier called.

The on the turn counterfeited Toth, and gave Dozier the best hand. The bricked on the river, and Toth was left with just 1,400. He was eliminated shortly after.

Dozier is now amongst our leaders with 223,000.

Glazier Busts Shorty

Jackie Glazier

We don't know exactly how the action went, but we know that after a series of raises before the flop Jackie Glazier had her opponent all in and at risk. Once everything was settled the two players flipped over their cards and the whole table saw where they were at.

Glazier:

The board came and with a nut flush Glazier was able to send out an opponent and bring in some chips.

It's Raining, It's Pauring Chips

Taylor Paur has seen his chip stack increase to over 400,000 recently, making him the new chip leader. We recently watched Paur rake in another pot, with a flop already showing by the time we arrived at the table. There was over 7,000 already in the middle at this point and Paur had led with a bet of 3,200. His lone opponent called and it was on to the turn. Paur again led here, splashing out a bet of 7,500. His opponent again called and the dealer flipped over a river. Paur hesitated for a moment and then bet 18,800. Paur's opponent folded and more chips =were added to the towering stacks of Paur.

Black Dispatched By Hyman

Andy Black

We noticed 2005 World Series of Poker finalist Andy Black was no longer seated at Table 438. A quick check with the lingering players revealed that Black was eliminated when he opened with a raise, Matthew Hyman three-bet, Black shipped all in with , and Hyman called with .

We're not sure how the board ran out, but we do know that Hyman ended with the best hand to send the Irishman to the rail.

Demirdjian Finishes Off Day 1a Chip Leader to Take Over Chip Lead

William John

Earlier in the day, Mark Demirdjian put a big dent in the stack of William John, who began Day 2a as the overwhelming chip leader. Demirdjian recently finished the job by eliminating John here in Level 9.

The exact details of the hand escaped us, but we do know John got the last of his chips in on a flop of holding . Unfortunately for him, Demirdjian held for a set. The turn left John drawing dead, while the river sent him out the door unusually early.

More for Somerville

Moments after we spent an orbit with him, Jason Somerville saw a flop of with one opponent. The player led out for 3,600, and Somerville raised to 8,500. His opponent called.

Both players checked after the turned, and the completed the board. Somerville's opponent led out for 12,000, and Somerville quickly called.

"You win," the player announced.

Somerville tabled for a jack-high straight, and shipped the pot.

Boatman Breaks 200k Mark

When we got to the table, we saw that Barny Boatman had limped in from middle position, then raised it to 6,500 after the button made it 2,800. His opponent called, and the flop came . Boatman fired out 4,000, and his opponent made the call. The turn brought the , and Boatman fired out again, this time for 6,000. That was enough to make his opponent fold, and after stacking up his chips, we saw that he had 202,000.

An Orbit with Chip Leader Jason Somerville

Coming back from the dinner break, chip leader Jason Somerville began in the cutoff seat at Table 1 in the Gold Section of the Brasilia Room. He started the orbit with roughly 330,000 in chips and here are the hands.

  • Hand #1: Action folded to Somerville in the cutoff seat and he raised to 2,000, the minimum allotted raise. Laith Salem called from the big blind and the flop came down . After Salem checked, Somerville fired a continuation bet of 2,400. Salem folded and Somerville started off the orbit with a win.
  • Hand #2: Somerville folded from the hijack seat preflop.
  • Hand #3: With his table only having seven players at it, Somerville was now under the gun plus one and raised to 2,500. Salem made the call from the button and the two took the flop. Somerville checked and Salem bet 3,500. Somerville called.
The turn was the and put a fourth heart on board. Both players checked. They also both checked the that paired the board on the river. Somerville showed the for two pair, but Salem had the for a flush and won the pot.
  • Hand #4: Somerville folded from under the gun.
  • Hand #5: The player under the gun raised to 2,500 and Somerville called from the big blind to see the flop. After Somerville checked, his opponent bet 3,100. Somerville check-raised to 10,000 and his opponent.
"Pretty good flop," said Somerville as he turned up the and then raked in the pot.
  • Hand #6: Action folded to Somerville in the small blind and he raised to 2,500 to win the pot.
  • Hand #7: Play folded to Somerville on the button in the last hand of the orbit and he min-raised to 2,000. The two blinds folded and Somerville won the pot.

That concludes the orbit with Somerville to kick things off after the dinner break. He went from roughly 330,000 to a little over 340,000 for about a 10,000-chip profit.

But don't worry, there's more coming from Somerville in just a moment as he took a fairly decent pot just a few hands later. Stay tuned!

Jaka Wins Some More

Faraz Jaka

A recent walk around the Amazon room brought us over to Faraz Jaka's table where we found him getting involved in a pot. The rest of the table folded around to the cutoff player who raised it up to 2,300. Jaka sat on the button and made the call. The small blind folded, and the big blind paid the toll as well.

The flop came and all three players checked. The on the turn saw the big blind check, and the cutoff follow suit with a tap of the felt of their own. Jaka was next up to bat and he bet out 3,700. The big blind then raised to 10,600. The cutoff folded and Jaka made the call.

The then landed on the river and the big blind checked. After a few moments Jaka placed a bet of 13,000. The big blind leaned back in his chair, smiled, and gave away his hand. It appears Jaka has had a bit of a reemergence late here on day 2ab, Jaka is now well over the 150,000 mark and looks primed to make day 3, but anything can happen.
