Day 2 of the WSOP APAC Event 2 $1650 PLO has proved to be one full of swings but would you expect anything else from a Pot Limit Omaha event?

Andrew Gaw started the day as chip leader and seemed to be cruising along nicely, not taking any unnecessary risks until he came up against Dan Shak. Shak crippled Gaw but despite a number of recoveries Gaw finally fell in 12th place for $5,028AUD. Shak put Gaw’s chips to good use and continued picking up pots to finish the day with 102,700 in chips.

However, the biggest swing of the day had to have come from our chip leader Jim Collopy. After getting pricked by Tony Kambouroglou’s toothpick, Collopy was down to approximately 8,000 chips. However, after a series of remarkable hands he has ended the day as our massive chip leader with 209,200 chips.

Will the final table produce the same swings that we’ve witnessed today? Tune in tomorrow for all the live action, hand for hand, from 12:30pm AEST to find out!

Seat 1 - Dan Shak - 102,700
Seat 2 - Mike Leah - 71,200

Seat 5 - Minh Nguyen - 122,200
Seat 6 - Scott Reid - 28,400

After taking a number of hits late in the day, Tony Kambouroglou’s toothpick has finally snapped.

After getting almost half of his remaining 18,000 chip stack in the middle pre flop against Michael Leah he put the rest of it in on the flop of     and Leah happily made the call. Leah snap showed Kambouroglou his    for a flopped full house and Kambouroglou just shook his head however showed Leah his    indicating he had a Royal Flush out. That hope was quickly wiped as Leah spread out the rest of his hand.

Leah:
Kambouroglou:

The turn   and river   proved irrelevant and Kambouroglou was eliminated from our unofficial final table in 10th place.

Monday, April 8, 2013 6:46 PM Local Time

Jim Collopy, Tino Lechich and Paul Sharbanee have all been moved to the unofficial final table but that hasn’t stopped them being involved some action in their new environment.

Lechich raised it up to 5,000 from the button before Sharbanee and Collopy called out of the blinds. The flop of     brought checks from all players but the   on the turn brought a little more action. Sharbanee and Collopy both checked to Lechich who happily fired out 9,000 in chips. Sharbanee folded but Collopy made the call.

The   landed on the river and for the third time Collopy checked to Lechich. Lechich again fired a bet of 16,000. Collopy decided to take another look at his cards before sliding out two towers of 1,000 chips which totalled 40,000. Lechich announced he was all-in and Collopy called. Given the action on the river we expected to see a chop and we were not surprised when the cards were tabled.

Tony Kambouroglou, aka 'Toothpick Tony', has had his stack cut down to just 18,000 after a hand in which he doubled up Minh Nguyen. With a flop showing     Nguyen check-raised Toothpick Tony to 13,000 from the small blind and a call brought the turn

Nguyen slowed down with a check at this point and Toothpick Tony bet out 25,000 more. After a while in the tank, Nguyen announced all in and Toothpick Tony called.

Nguyen:
Toothpick Tony:

Toothpick Tony was in front with a turned full house against Nguyen’s trip tens but the river   was like a splinter in the eye for Tony and sent the 112,000 pot into Nguyen’s corner with a higher boat.

Hats off to Joshua Budin, he had been grinding his short stack all throughout today, watching on as others with far greater stacks steadily departed the tournament. He also got all his chips in good in his final hand and copped a tough bad beat for his efforts.

It went down when Tino Lechich limped from UTG and Budin called in the small blind. Jim Collopy checked his option in the big blind and dealer tabled a flop of     Budin led out for 5500, forcing a fold from Collopy but Lechich pushed over the top to put Budin all in.

The call signaled a showdown and Budin’s      set of sixes were well ahead of Lechich’s      two-pair. However, Lechich called for a king and immediately got one on the   turn. The   river still meant Lechich had won the hand with the higher full house and Budin was off to collect his $5,028 in prize money.

After a series of setbacks and recoveries Andrew Gaw has finally been eliminated from today’s proceedings.

Gaw decided to “pot” the action pre flop and Collopy came in over the top which forced Tino Lechich and Scott Reid out of the hand. Gaw decided he liked his hand enough and pushed the remainder of his chips into the middle.

Gaw:
Collopy:

The flop of     had given Collopy two pair and a straight draw. The turn brought the   before the river of   bricked for Gaw.

Gaw was eliminated in 12th place for $5,028AUD.

Monday, April 8, 2013 5:29 PM Local Time

Jim Collopy and Tino Lechich were at it again and this time Paul Sharbanee thought he’d join in on the party.

Collopy raised it in the cut off position to 4,000 before Lechich called in position on the button and Sharbanee also called in the big blind.

The interesting flop of     brought a check from Sharbanee, but a 8,000 chip bet from Collopy. Both players opted to see another card as the   dropped on the turn. Sharbanee again checked to Collopy who was not intimiadated by his opponents call on the flop and fired another bet, this time of 16,000.

Lechich, who was currently getting a massage, looked like he was pushing some chips in but unlike the last time these two clashed folded which prompted Sharbanee to follow suit.

Collopy moves up to 165,000 in chips

They are falling like flies now as Dean Yuen has bowed out in 13th place. Barely able to keep up with the action, we raced over to Yeun’s table to see a board of       Yeun had      which was, unfortunately for him, no good against the two-pair of Tino Lechich holding

Lechich now has a very respectable stack of 108,000.

Monday, April 8, 2013 5:09 PM Local Time

Jim Collopy and Tino Lechich just played out a hand both showing each other a different level of respect.

Lechich check called a 5,600 bet from Collopy on a flop of     Both players checked the   on the turn before Lechich fired out a 9,000 bet on the   river.

Collopy looked at his cards again, tapped the table out of respect for Lechich’s bet and showed him    for a turned straight. In reply to Collopy’s sign of respect Lechich flipped his cards over to show complete air with K-Q-T-9.

Five-time WSOP bracelet holder Jeff Lisandro has just been eliminated after getting his short stack all in preflop against Tino Lechich. Lisandro needed some luck with      against Lechich’s      but a board of       gave Lechich the king-high flush and sent Lisandro home with $4138 in prize money.

In what could be the biggest pot of the night, Jim Collopy has just collected yet another scalp in the form of Phillip Willcocks. We caught the action with a board reading      and the fuse already lit.

Willcocks had an 8000 bet sitting in front of him. With his usual slow-motion style, Collopy then counted out a raise to 21,000.  An “all in” announcement followed and Collopy wasted no time in calling.

Willcocks:
Collopy:

Willcocks had two-pair but Collopy had already flopped the straight. The river   changed nothing and sent Willcocks home in 15th place for $4138 in prize money.

After Collopy had formally stacked his chips and played a few subsequent hands his stack had taken on the monstrous proportions of 161,600.

Monday, April 8, 2013 4:33 PM Local Time

Andrew Gaw has had his chip count swing up and down in just a single orbit. Initially sitting on approximately 70,000 chips he entered the orbit in the small-blind. Martin Kozlov had opened the action with a raise to 3,200 and Dan Shak opted to call from the button. Gaw pushed out a raise of 12,800 which was enough to see Kozlov release his hand but Shak made the infamous “pot” call which the dealer calculated to be 41,600. Shak pushed out all his chips and Gaw tanked for quite some time. After much deliberation, he counted Shak’s total stack which was in the region of 50,000 and decided to make the call.

Shak:
Gaw:

Gaw was relieved to see Shak’s hand however, the flop of     quickly changed that. The turn   and river   both bricked for Gaw as Shak collected a massive 105,000 chip pot.

Gaw was left with just 21,500.

A few hands later he found all his chips in the middle against two opponents in Tony ‘Toothpick’ Kambouroglou and Jacob Elmore-Dahl.

Kambouroglou:
Elmore-Dahl:
Gaw:

The flop of     hit Elmore-Dahl’s King but Kambouroglou’s Aces were still out in front. The turn brought the   which put Elmore-Dahl in the lead with a straight and it also gave Kambouroglou two pair and Gaw a flush draw.

Just when you thought the plot couldn’t get any thicker, to complete the lead turn around the   dropped on the river to complete Gaw’s flush, eliminate Elmore-Dahl and draw some emotion from Kambouroglou who temporarily walked away from the table.

Gaw moved back up to 61,000 in chips, Kambouroglou slipped to 52,000 and Elmore-Dahl was left chipless and up at the cage to collect his $3,460AUD for his 16th place finish.

Minh Phuc Nguyen has lost a big pot as a big favourite. After Marvin Rettenmaier opened the betting to 3,400 from under the gun, Nguyen decided to flat call from late position until Michael Leah pushed the bet up to 12,400 from the big blind. This pushed Rettenmaier out of the way but Nguyen decided to show the strength of his hand by coming over the top with a bet that put Leah all-in and at risk. Leah called off the remainder of his 31,300 chip stack.

Nguyen:
Leah:

Nguyen was a big favourite to eliminate Leah however the dealer didn’t agree. He quickly turned over the   in the window followed by      Leah made a comment that “the 9-2 was enough” as he joyfully collected approximately 68,000 in chips. Nguyen dropped down to 15,000.

Joe Hachem’s quest to gain a shiny new friend for his 2005 WSOP Main Event bracelet has just ended today after he busted out in 17th place for $3,460 in prize money.

In the hand, Hachem raised up the action preflop from the cutoff and was called by button man Jim Collopy and Phillip Willcocks in the big blind. A flop of     hit the felt and action was checked to Collopy who bet 2400.

Willcocks folded before Hachem declared he was all in and Collopy snap-called. With cards on their backs Hachem’s      trip eights we’re outkicked by Collopy’s      The turn   and river   blanked out for Hachem who got up out of his chair saying, “And that’s all she wrote.”

Monday, April 8, 2013 3:47 PM Local Time

A huge pot has just gone the way of Marvin Rettenmaier at the expense of Tony ‘Toothpick’ Kambouroglou.

Rettenmaier opened up the action from the cut off position with a bet of 2,600 before Kambouroglou upped the bet 9,600. Rettenmaier pondered his next move before finally making the call.

The flop brought     but little action as both players checked. The   on the turn again saw Rettenmaier check before Kambouroglou fired out 16,000 in chips.  Rettenmaier who had a puzzled look on his face took some time before finally pushing out the required chips to make the call. The river brought the   and a third check from Rettenmaier. Kambouroglou thought about his next action and this time opted to check behind. Rettenmaier quickly rolled over      for a rivered straight flush before Kambouroglou quickly flashed    for a turned set but no flush.

Rettenmaier raked in a 53,000 pot to put him up to 78,500 in chips as Kambouroglou slips down to 61,000.

Jim Collopy has just befuddled himself after a hand with Phillip Willcocks which would have put Collopy severely on the ropes had he lost the hand. From early position, Willcocks raised up the action preflop and Collopy met him in the big blind. The flop of     came down and Willcocks continuation bet 3500.

A call brought the turn   and Willcocks stepped up the aggression with a 14,000 bomb. Collopy took his time, as it would mean devoting a large chunk of his stack to the pot, but made the call to bring up a river

At this point both players checked and Willcocks showed      before Collopy turned over      and then mucked them face down thinking he had lost the pot. The dealer, however, promptly turned them back over as the rest of the table wondered what Collopy had seen that they didn’t.

“He has two pair” said Collopy referring to his opponent’s hand, but on closer inspection his own pair of queens were all that were needed to take it down.

“Oh crap,” Collopy said and got up from the table, shaking his head in disbelief but no doubt counting his lucky stars he didn’t just muck his hand without rolling it over.

Moments after the tournament director announced that we were hand for hand, we instantly had our bubble boy.

Phillips Willcocks and Lee Hon Cheong got all their money in pre flop.

Willcocks:
Cheong:

However, despite Cheong spiking a King on the flop of     Willcocks managed to find another diamond as the board ran out    to make a King-high flush.

As soon as players had retaken their new seats we also lost our first player in the money as quick as the bubble burst. John Dallesandri got his stack in the middle pre flop holding K-K-T-T but also ran into Willcocks who held A-A-x-x.

Willcocks now has 66,000 in chips.
