It was an exciting day of poker in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino as players flocked to the Amazon room for Event #35: $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. This event drew many of poker's elite as they tried their hand in this five-game rotation event. After ten full levels of play Eli Elezra (pictured) leads the field heading into Day 2 with 69,000 in chips.
While Elezra bagged the biggest stack in the room, he's closely followed by fierce competition. Other big stacks include Joshua Turner (65,400), John Monnette (65,100), Barry Greenstein (52,900), Scott Mauer (52,600) Taylor Paur (52,100), Greg Mueller (50,300)
Also returning for Day 2 is none other than Chris Wallace, reigning $10,000 H.O.R.S.E champion. Just one year ago, Wallace rose to the top of that elite field to defeat Randy Ohel during heads up play. Wallace claimed his first bracelet and $507,614 in first-place prize money. Wallace will return as one of the bigger stacks on Day 2 with 56,600 to his name.
The event drew a grand total of 376 entries, allowing for a total prize pool of $1,026,480. The top 40 players will make the money with first place guaranteed a payday of $261,774 as well as a gold WSOP bracelet. By the end of the day, the clock read that 228 players put chips in their bags for Day 2.
This field drew was packed to the brim with familiar faces. Some of those to advance onto Day 2 include John Hennigan (47,100), Tony Ma (37,300), Tom Schneider (36,800) Maria Ho (34,300) 2005 WSOP Main Event champion Joe Hachem (28,100), Mike Matusow (26,100), Kevin Iacofano (25,900) Marco Johnson (24,200), and Phil Hellmuth (17,200).
While those players were fortunate enough to survive the first ten levels, dozens of others were not. Daniel Negreanu, Eric Wasserson, Maria Mayrinck, Robert Mizrachi, Chris Bjorin, Jimmy Fricke, Brian Hastings, Ylon Schwartz, Calvin Anderson, and Scott Clements are just a small sample size of those to hit the rail before the end of the day.
Play resumes at 2 p.m. on Wednesday where the returning runners will play ten more levels. As always, be sure to return to WSOP.com for all of the latest big pots, bad beats, and bust outs.
