It was an action packed day of Pot-Limit Hold'em here at the Rio. What started as 108 players is now just 15, and the man at the top of the counts is David Eldridge. He bagged an impressive 677,000 in chips, thanks to a timely knockout at the end of the night. French player Michel Leibgorin (667,000) and German Paul Michaelis (562,000) traded the chip lead back and forth for a while, and both are hot on Eldridge's tail heading into tomorrow. They have some stiff competition left, however, as there is a bracelet winner, and a few savvy veterans left to contend with.
The biggest money earner left in the field is Tom Marchese, who will take 258,000 into play tomorrow in his quest for that first elusive gold bracelet. Tristan Wade bagged up 249,000 tonight, and he is looking for his second WSOP gold bracelet. There's also Kyle Bowker (235,000), who has just under $2.5 million in live tournament earnings.
When play began today, we had to lose 36 players in order to get into the money. Some of the notables who fell into that unfortunate category were Josh Arieh, Tony Cousineau, Felix Stephensen, Amit Makhija, and Michael Rocco. Rocco started the day out as our chip leader, but he quickly lost it, and busted 15 spots short of the money.
Once the money bubble burst, the eliminations came fast and furious. Along the way to bagging up tonight, we lost Chris Moorman (69th), Alex Masek (58th), Ashton Griffin (53rd), Antonio Esfandari (45th), and former Main Event Champions Joe Cada (32nd) and Jonathan Duhamel (24th). WSOP bracelet winner Eric Baldwin was one of the last causalities of the night, when his two pair was bested by the flush of Georgios Sotiropoulos.
Play will resume again at 1 PM tomorrow, and another WSOP gold bracelet will be handed out when all is said and done. Be sure to come back at that time for all of your updates, including hand-for-hand coverage at the final table. Until then, so long from the Rio in Las Vegas!
