Day 2 Ends; Bonnet Tops Final Eight

Yannick Bonnet

Day 2 of Event #1: €2,700 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold'em at the 2012 World Series of Poker Europe has come to a close. Just eight players have been left standing at the end of the carnage and they'll return tomorrow for Day 3 to finish this one out.

Leading the final eight is Yannick Bonnet with 476,000. He's the only player to amass more than 300,000 in chips at the end of the day with Senh Ung (289,000) and Matan Krakow (250,000) rounding out the top three.

When the day began, 50 players returned to action. Of those still in contention were Greg Merson, Marc-Andre Ladouceur, Ozzy Sheikh, McLean Karr, Rémy Biechel and Padraig Parkinson. Unfortunately for those players, they all finished outside of the money.

One other player heading out before the money was Jeff Rossiter. He earned the worst finishing position of them all as he became the first bubble boy of the 2012 WSOP Europe.

First to go once the bubble broke was 12-time gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. Other notable cashes included Govert Metaal, Brandon Cantu, Jennifer Tilly and David "ODB" Baker.

The big story heading into the final day will be Matan Krakow, last year's fourth-place finisher. Krakow began the day as the chip leader and worked his way to the end of the night third overall. He's just a few spots shy of topping his finish from last year, but it doesn't need to be said that he really would like to take home the victory.

Play will begin tomorrow at 1:00 PM local time and you can expect either an early elimination or double up as Romain Chauvassagne will begin the day severely short stacked. We'll see you right back here on PokerNews for all the updates starting in the early afternoon as the first bracelet winner is crowned.

Coming To a Standstill

To say things have slowed down would be an understatement. The players are spread across two tables, one with five and one with four. They're well aware that the end of the day is approaching, as is a chance at making the final table. With that comes cautious play. Many of the preflop shoves are going uncalled and the pots that do go to post-flop action are kept fairly small. There's just 16 minutes left in the final level of the day, so we're looking at wrapping things up short of a final table.
