Day 1b of the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event has officially come to a close. Today saw 2,114 players put up $10,000 to compete for the most prestigious title in poker. Combined with the players who came out for Day 1a, the total number of entrants for the Main Event so far is up to 3,180. Leading the remaining players of Day 1b is John Hoang who is sitting atop a stack of 180,000. Rounding out the top three are James Schafer (171,250) and Vanessa Selbst (168,350).

This is the day of the year that all tournament poker players wait for, so it was no surprise to see a stacked field that was filled to the brim with familiar faces. That being said, this also turns out to be the saddest day of the year for some, as their hopes of making a deep run in the Main Event have to be pushed back one more year. Among those to turn up for play only to have their WSOP come to an end before the day's conclusion were Tom Dwan, David Singer, Tyler Bonkowski, Martin Kabrhel, Chris DeMaci, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Chip Jett, Victor Ramdin, Joe Sebok, Todd Brunson, Amanda Musumeci, Bertrand Grospellier, 2004 WSOP Main Event champion Greg Raymer, and current UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

While the series came to an end for many, others thrived in this deep structured tournament. One of the more familiar faces looking to make a deep run in this tournament is four-time WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu. Despite his recent cash in Event 60: $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit), Negreanu has had a rough series thus far. He's managed to collect 140,575 chips so far on Day 1, however, and has a solid chance at finishing the series on a strong note as he is sitting top ten in chips to finish Day 1b.

This summer has come to be known as the year of the woman here at the WSOP. Many female players made final tables in open events and Vanessa Selbst was able to capture her second bracelet. Selbst continued to crush the dreams of other players on Day 1b of the Main Event. The biggest addition to Selbst's stack came on the final hand of the evening when she got it all in with another big stack. All of the money went in before the flop and Selbst held against her opponent's . Selbst turned a set of aces and her opponent rivered a king just to rub it in. After that win Selbst was able to end the night with 168,350.

Up until Selbst's final hand of the night it was Maria Ho who held the position of woman with the most chips for a majority of the day . Ho gained a solid chunk of her chips when she was able to river a full house to double up. Ho finished the day with 130,425 and will be a force to be reckoned with when she returns for Day 2.

Other familiar names who will be returning for Day 2 include Jason Somerville (144,725), Shaun Deeb (125,900), Brian Hastings (119,000), Sam Farha (118,500), Amnon Filippi (109,900), Bernard Lee (96,575), Eugene Katchalov (96,275), George Danzer (84,125), Dan Harrington (83,750), Robert Varkonyi (75,325), Jerry Yang (71,775), Barry Greenstein (60,825), Justin Bonomo (54,225), Liv Boeree (40,500), Bryan Devonshire (22,525) and many more.

With five levels under their belts, the surviving players will return to play for Day 2 at 12:00 PM on Tuesday. The ESPN main stage was set to play one last final hand before the table ended for the night. We don't know exactly how the action went, but after a series of raises Vanessa Selbst managed to get all in and at risk literally by the hand of her opponent. Lucky for Selbst she had a dream scenario.

Selbst flipped over while her opponent mustered up for second best. The flop blanked out for both players, but the on the turn guaranteed Selbst would be returning to the Main Event, returning with a monster stack.

Andrew Brokos was just involved in an interesting hand with Pacome Chavignon which resulted in a big bump for Brokos and a hit to Chavignon. Brokos, recall, has a string of cashes in the WSOP Main Event to his credit, including finishing within the top 100 three of the last four years (35th, 2008; 87th, 2010; and 53rd, 2011).

The preflop action was related to us second hand, but it sounds like Chavignon opened with a raise, Brokos reraised, Chavignon four-bet, Brokos reraised again, and Chavignon called. The flop then came and Chavignon fired a bet of 10,000 that Brokos called. The pair then checked down the turn and river.

Chavignon tabled — he'd flopped two pair, then the jack on the turn had counterfeited his hand. Brokos showed , that turn jack having made his hand best.

This drew a groan from the whole table, as it gave his opponent trips. Devo's opponent told the dealer to hold up to make sure the cameras were in place, and Devo just sat silently in his chair. After a few more seconds of delay, the dealer showed the river.

The whole tabled erupted as Devo binked the ace on the river to get a winning full house. His table mate David Pham said "I folded the last ace!" and dug it out of the muck. Devo just let out a wry smile, as he started stacking his chips. After that hand, Devo is back up to 26,000.

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier got off to a great start in the first couple of levels, but it was all downhill from there. He was short for most of the post dinner break play, and when we walked by his table just now, his seat was empty.

We took to twitter, and found out that he minraised on the button with , and that the big blind moved him all in with . Grospellier made the call, but his eights didn't hold. Grospellier's summer at the WSOP is over.

Vitaly Lunkin raised to 1,050 from under the gun and action folded around to Galen Hall in the big blind, who quickly tossed in a call.

The flop came and Hall donk-bet for 1,400, sending Lunkin into the tank. After about a minute, Lunkin slid his hand into the muck - conceding the pot to Hall.

Brian Rast has had a good Day 1b, chipping up steadily and maintaining an above average stack all day. About a half-hour ago he tweeted the following:

Just now we went over to check out Rast's table, and saw a hand that appeared to prove Rast is indeed playing his "A" game.

The button had raised and the blinds both called, with Rast playing from the big blind. The flop came and all three checked. The turn was the , and when it checked to Rast he bet 1,200. The button called, and the small blind folded.

The river was the . This time Rast fired a bet of 3,700. His opponent sat for about a half-minute, rechecked his cards, then suddenly tossed out two orange (5,000) chips for a raise to 10,000.

Rast looked up at the ceiling and exhaled, thought for about 15 seconds, then folded his hand face up — for two pair. His opponent likewise showed his hand — for a set of fives.

"When I want you to call you don't and when I don't want you to, you do!" complained Rast's opponent. He nodded and smiled, turning his attention to the next hand.

Jeff Beckley raised to 1,100 from early position. Shawn Buchanan called from middle position and the player in the big blind called as well.

The flop came down and the big blind checked it to Beckley who bet 2,500. Buchanan was the lone caller to see the turn where Beckley bet 5,000. A call from Buchanan landed the river where once again Beckley bet 5,000. Buchanan popped it to about 12,000, Beckley called, and the hands were revealed.

We heard the announcer from the main stage say that Scotty Nguyen was all in, so we ran over to investigate. When we got there, we saw that Nguyen got it in with on a flop of . However, Nguyen was up against the of Marc Karam. Nguyen would need a ton of help to survive, but the board ran dry for him, coming and .

Nguyen wished everyone good luck, and as he left the stage, a spectator yelled "Love you Scotty." Nguyen quickly responded "Love you too baby!" as he left the mothership.

Scott Seiver just called out for cocktail service for his table. Once the attendant arrived Seiver politely asked for a noose. Seiver seems to be having a pretty rough day. He recently tweeted this.

David Diaz raised from middle position and got one caller from the big blind. The flop came . The big blind checked, Diaz bet 1,300, his opponent raised to 2,950, and Diaz called. The turn was the , and this time the big blind led out for 3,900. Diaz then raised to 10,000, and his opponent called with his remaining chips, totaling 8,900.

Diaz had for trip nines while his opponent had for the straight. The dealer then burned a card and delivered the river... the ! Diaz had made a full house to scoop the pot and send another player to the rail.

For some, playing in the World Series of Poker Main Event is one of those rare opportunities, perhaps a "bucket list" item or once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. It's also a daunting proposition for some, especially if their experience at the WSOP is at all limited.

Perhaps those factors are inspiring the conversation over at Table 417, where the table talk has turned to discussing other, similarly risky adventures, such as running with the bulls at Pamplona, Spain.

"Now you can run with the bulls and not even see the bulls," explained one player. "Or you can run with them and try to pet their noses."

"What do you mean?" asked another. "Well, have you ever gone swimming with sharks?" "No." "But you've swam in the ocean, right?" "Right." "Well you've swam in shark-infested waters, then."

Barry Greenstein seems to have been knocked down a little since the last time we saw him. When we caught up with him a few minutes ago we found him battling it out with a big blind player from middle position. We don't know exactly how the action went on the flop, but we know one of the players bet, and the other called.

The on the turn saw the big blind check, and Greenstein fire out for 3,000. The big blind made the call and was allowed to see the river. After the was fanned for the river the big blind checked again, and Greenstein placed a bet of 7,000.

After some inner debating the big blind made the call. Greenstein exposed for a pair of aces and the big blind flashed for a weaker pair of queens. Greenstein now sits around 50,000 in chips.

The flop came and Lee's opponent checked, prompting a 2,150 bet from him. His opponent quickly folded and Lee scooped the pot.
