Record-Setting Day 1 Completed

Record Crowd Event 29

Today was a historical day here at the World Series of Poker with 4,128 players coming out for Event 29: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship, making this tournament the largest single day start ever. With the field being strictly limited to players 50 years old and over this was a huge accomplishment. Players were spread out through the three rooms here at the Rio, and played 6 hours before all the remaining players were in the same room. At one point during the day it was determined that on average 6 players were being eliminated a minute. 462 players managed to hold on to their stacks for the entirety of the day and will be returning tomorrow.

Radwan Khuri will come into day two as the chip leader, bagging 112,600. Even though Khuri possesses the chip lead does not mean he is safe by any means. Behind Khuri is Fred Roll who finished the day with 94,100. Dennis Phillips played solid the entire day and finished with 44,500. Phillips seemed to be the main attraction of today's event, bringing the fan out in people and telling stories. Other players who aren't going to go out with a fight are Humberto Brenes and Marcel Luske who both made day two as well.

The day saw its fair share of victors, but it also had many losers. Sam Grizzle, Eli Elezra, Chad Brown, and James Woods all made early exits today. James Hess, last year's winner of this event also won't be joining the festivities tomorrow as he was eliminated late here on day one.

We finished the day 39 people away from the money, and expect to see the bubble burst extremely early tomorrow. To find out who will be walking away with what check out PokerNews tomorrow at 11:00 AM for all the updates.

Making the Money?

We are less than 100 people away from the money right now with 47 more minutes of play to be had. Will the tournament make the money tonight? The way people have been dropping it would be no surprise.

Mama H0

It has just come to our attention that Marilynn Kroon is in the field today. We managed to catch up to the mother of poker pro Mark "P0ker H0" Kroon as she was stealing the blinds and antes.

Kroon sits around 18,000 and looks to be in great shape to make Day 2.

Weibraub Busts

The board read and Adam Weinraub's opponent moved all in for 10,000. With 14,000 already in the middle this was no pot to scoff at. After a minute or so of thinking Weinraub made the call and was at risk.

After a series of raises John Cernuto found himself all in against two opponents. Another player was all in with Cernuto so cards were tabled.

A New Champ Will Be Crowned

We don't know exactly how the action went preflop, but we do know that Hess three-bet to 5,000 and his opponent four-bet shoved for 8,725. Hess made the call and cards were tabled.

The board came and Hess was eliminated when his ace high couldn't hold up against his opponent's pair of queens.

Call Me, Maybe?

A player in early position moved all in for 4,500 and action folded to the cut-off who then moved all in herself for 6,925. Dennis Phillips in the small blind thought for a little bit before making the call.

Over at table #5 we noticed a limp pot a brewing with about five players on a board. The big blind was the first to strike out and bet 2,000. Action then folded around to Adam Weinraub in middle position who moved all in.

The table folded back to the big blind who folded showing and Weinraub showed for king high, Weinraub now sits around 20,000.

Phillip's Finding Chips

Dennis Phillips

A player in middle position started a recent hand out by making it 1,200 to anyone who wanted to see a flop. A player in late position made the call, as did Dennis Phillips in the big blind.

The flop came and all three players knuckled the table for checks. A on the turn saw a repeat of action with the three players checking.

The on the river saw Phillips wake up and bet 3,000. The middle position player folded and the late position player made the call.

Phillips tabled for the straight and his opponent mucked his hole cards. While raking in the pot Phillips said "Neither one of you wanted to bet!?" acknowledging that he could have won a bigger pot.

Marcel Moving Up

Marcel Luske

Marcel Luske limped in from early position and was quickly faced with a bet of 1,725 from a player who moved all in from middle position. Luske completed the call and cards were tabled.

Luske took this opportunity to bet 1,600. The big blind then moved all in for about 12,000. Luske folded, but sits around 36,000 in chips.
