Home gamer, David Chapman, takes home ultimate Circuit prize after outlasting experienced field.
Cherokee, North Carolina (April 18, 2016) – Day seven at the Harrah’s Cherokee Circuit stop saw David Chapman snag his first World Series of Poker gold ring. The North Carolina native took down a field of 334 entries in Event #5: $365 Pot Limit Omaha Re-Entry. The tournament lasted two days and ended Tuesday night on the Harrah’s Cherokee Main Stage.
Chapman was surrounded by his good friends when the final moment of triumph came. When asked if having the rail helped him, Chapman responded.
“Oh yeah, oh yeah. It’s fun watching them. They were more excited than I was I think,” explained Chapman. One friend in particular was intensely rooting for a victory, and for good reason. “This is my buddy here; we split everything. I get to give half my profit away,” Chapman said with a laugh.
The resident of Morganton, NC plays mostly home games, but decided to gamble with the WSOPC in Cherokee and it certainly paid off. Chapman reeled in $23,051 for his first-place finish.
As the chip leader coming into Day 2 of the tournament, Chapman had a pretty safe cushion to begin the final leg. This facilitate a seemingly worthwhile strategy for the 38-year-old.
“I folded all day long, till I got to the last two tables,” Chapman stated.
When it got down to the final bunch, a good amount of experience remained. There were even two, WSOP gold bracelet winners at the final table. However, it was Chapman, a man who does not play a ton of PLO, scooping the very last pot.
The husband, and father, will have a momentous story to tell for many years to come.
Here is a rundown of the final table results:
1st: David Chapman - $23,051
2nd: Tony Lay - $14,247
3rd: Sean Shah - $10,394
4th: Paul Hendee - $7,709
