Joliet, Ill. amateur finds success at the Horseshoe. Father of two has a third on the way, scores $26,390 and gold ring in $580 event.
Hammond, Ind. (October 19, 2015) — Kevin Falls did what most amateurs can only dream of Monday night at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Ind. Not only did the Joliet, Ill. resident win a World Series of Poker Circuit event, but he did so in style. On the final hand of Event #2, a $580 no-limit hold’em tournament, Falls peeked down at . Eventual runner up Paul Brown raised and Falls re-raised. Brown called and they saw a flop. The board came giving Falls a set. He checked. Brown jammed and Falls snap-called. Brown was drawing dead with . Just for good measure, the river completed the board with the improving Falls to quads. With that, he was victorious.
“It was the most intense final table that I’ve ever seen,” Falls said. “It feels really, really good. First cash in the WSOP and I get to get a ring out of it, too.”
Falls’ win came at the hands of a 203-player field. He earned the lion’s share of the $101,500 prize pool which was doled out in the form of a $26,390 score. On top of that, he slid on his first gold ring and went home with 50 points toward the Casino Championship and a $1,675 Main Event seat added courtesy of the Horseshoe.
Falls began the heads-up duel with Brown as the short stack. On the second-to-last hand of the tournament, he got the last of his measly chips in with against the of Brown. The flop was fortuitous, coming improving him to a fullhouse and eventually giving him a full double. Just one hand later the aforementioned aces held up and he became a WSOP ring winner.
With a wife, two children and another child on the way at home, Falls said the prize money will go toward taking care of his family. He is 29 years old and resides in Joliet, Ill. where he works in retail management. Primarily a cash game player, Falls has been dabbling in cards since he was 16. His Event #2 victory marks his first WSOP-related cash.
“I have two girls at home and a third on the way so this will help go to pay for everything they need,” he said. “Obviously I get the Main Event entry, too, so hopefully you’ll speak to me again.”
Joining Falls in the money in Event #2 were ring winners David Delaney (19th), Stephen Nussrallah (16th), Navin Kamal (11th) and Derek Schroeder (10th).
