The 25-year-old West Palm Beach resident gains momentum heading to November’s finale, complements $22,349 in prize money with a gold ring.
West Palm Beach, Fla. (September 18, 2015) — First a ring then a bracelet? Joshua Beckley sure hopes so. The current November Niner won Event #1 of the World Series of Poker Circuit at the Palm Beach Kennel Club Friday becoming the first player in the fraternity’s history to do so while still in Main Event limbo. Beckley, who recently moved to West Palm Beach, Fla., overcame a field of 317 players in a $365 Monster Stack event to earn $22,349 along with 50 points toward the Casino Championship.
“It’s definitely an ego boost,” Beckley said of the win. “It makes me more confident with my game. It might also show the other [November Niners] that I can win a tournament.”
Beckley currently sits seventh of the nine remaining players in the WSOP Main Event and has taken steps to make sure he’s ready to claim poker’s ultimate prize in two short months. Upon his move to Florida, the 25-year-old had a lifestyle change that included a revamped diet and a new workout regimen. It didn’t take long for the fruits of his labor to show as he exhibited razor sharp concentration and spot-on decision making en route to a victorious performance at the Kennel Club.
“I’ve been eating clean and working out and I decided to give [the Monster Stack] a try to test out if that made a difference,” Beckley said. “I felt a lot clearer in the mind. It helped.”
Despite being a member of the most high-profile group in poker, Beckley admitted he coasted through Day 1 of the Monster Stack virtually unrecognized by his peers.
“Nobody Day 1 knew who I was,” he laughed. “Everybody knew [on Day 2]. I don’t think it made a difference. I think maybe I got a tiny bit of respect and a little bit more folds.”
Beckley began Day 2 holding the chip lead with 17 players remaining and nothing changed by the time the field narrowed to the unofficial final table of 10. He was challenged for the chip lead a handful of times, but never faltered. When his pocket aces busted the ace-queen of Syed Shah third, there was nothing Shah could say except, “Good luck in November.” From there, Beckley took a healthy lead into heads-up play and had only one small hiccup before he picked up against the of Aric Pluskat. The hand would be the last one Pluskat played as Beckley held to officially take the tournament’s top spot. Pluskat earned $13,818 for his second-place finish.
“It’s basically final table strategy,” Beckley said of how the victory could help propel him to the same fate in November. “The money is different and people are playing differently here, but I still have to consider a couple things. I think I’m fine tuning for the [Main Event].”
Joining Beckley in the money were ring winners Jason Bolton (29th, $636) and Cody Pack (11th, $1,671).
The Monster Stack kicked off the PBKC Circuit series in a big way drawing a healthy field of more than 300 players. The 2015/2016 installment marks the sixth-consecutive year the WSOP has called the club home and the second-consecutive year they’ll do so twice in the same season. In addition to the Monster Stack event, the series is headlined by this weekend’s $580 re-entry event and next weekend’s $1,675 Main Event.

Event #1 was the first of 12 gold ring events on the WSOP Circuit schedule at the Palm Beach Kennel Club. The $365 Monster Stack event attracted 317 players. The total prize pool came to $95,100 and the top 33 finishers were paid.
The tournament began Thursday, September 17 at 12 p.m. and Day 1 wrapped following Level 21 (~2:15 a.m.). Day 2 resumed Friday at 2 p.m. with 17 players remaining. Action concluded toward the beginning of Level 28 (~9 p.m.).

Beckley, who's the first player in the midst of a November Nine appearance to earn a ring, bested 317 players in the $365 Monster Stack event to pocket $22,349 and take the early Casino Championship lead in the Club's 12-tournament race.

Sean Syed Shah ran into the pocket aces of Joshua Beckley to bust third. As he hit the rail, there wasn't much Shah could say to Beckley except, "Good luck in November."
The hand solidified Beckley's chip lead and he currently holds roughly 4,750,000 to Aric Pluskat's 1,600,000 heads up. We will update you again when there is a winner.

After about three hours of play, the 17-player restart in the $365 Monster Stack event is down to 10 players and consolidated to the unofficial final table. Leading the way is current November Niner Joshua Beckley. Beckley's stack sits at 1,428,000 and he's neck-and-neck with second place Sean Syed Shah who claims 1,325,000.
On break, Beckley told to the WSOP he recently moved to the West Palm Beach area and he entered the Monster Stack to help keep his game sharp going into November's final table.
"It's good practice... Good final table practice," he said with a laugh.
Cards are in the air now with about 45 minutes remaining in the 12,000/24,000 with a 4,000 ante level. All remaining players have locked up $1,671 with $22,349, a Circuit gold ring and 50 points toward the Casino Championship heading home with the victor.

Following 21 levels of Day 1 play, yesterday's series-opening $365 Monster Stack is down 17 and there's a familiar face atop the leaderboard -- that of Joshua Beckley. Beckley, who hails from New Jersey, leads the way claiming 970,000 chips. He's currently seventh in chips in the WSOP Main Event where he's a member of poker's November Nine. If Beckley is able to hang on to his lead, he'll nab a warm-up piece of WSOP hardware prior to November's big show in Las Vegas.
Back to the Monster Stack, hot on the headliner's trail is Sean Syed Shah who holds 905,000. The next closest stack belongs to ring winner Cody Pack who parlayed his 20,000 starting chips into 555,000.

The remaining 65 players are about to go on their second-to-last break of the night. They'll return to their seats in just over 15 minutes to log six more levels of play before Day 1 concludes at about 2:15 a.m. local time. Those still in contention include Orlando Romero, Sam Panzica and Kim Stone. Romero leads this pack holding about 245,000 chips to Panzica's 79,000 and Stone's 40,000. Current blinds are 1,200/2,4000 with a 400 ante.

Each of the top 33 finishers head home with a score of at least $568. Payouts escalate from there before culminating in a first prize of $22,349. In addition to the five-figure score, the winner heads home with a Circuit gold ring and 50 points toward the Casino Championship.

The horn blows at noon ET with the first of 12 gold ring events, a $365 Monster Stack, and continues through Monday, September 28 when things conclude with the $1,675 Main Event. In between, the tournament for which the property has become known — a $580 re-entry event — headlines the schedule. As with all Circuit events, two players from the PBKC series earn a seat in the season-ending Global Casino Championship. The first seat goes to the winner of the Main Event, while the second goes to the Casino Champion, a title bestowed on the player who earns the most points via in-the-money finishes in ring events.
Last season’s installment of the PBKC Circuit climaxed in Darryll Fish’s Main Event victory. Fish, a Florida pro, outlasted the likes of four-time ring winners and fellow Sunshine State pros Maurice Hawkins and Sam Panzica to earn more than $173,000 and a seat in the National Championship — a tournament he went on to finish third good for another $152,000.
