Kyle White

Today started with 1,951 players in Event #22, $1,000 No Limit Hold'em. After 11 levels of play just 208 made it through the field to Day 2. Leading the way is Kyle White with an end of day chip count of 184,900. White has eight WSOP cashes totaling about $150,000.

Several other players have separated themselves from the pack and are sitting at the top of the leader board. Nacho Barbero, who won a big pot at the end of the night to lock up the second biggest stack in the room at 175,600.

Jason Wheeler has had a nice sized chip stack all day. He ends the day with 80,000. Wheeler has made two WSOP final tables, 25 WSOP cashes, and $1.5 million in career earnings.

Jason Faircloth is looking for his first big WSOP win. He placed 88th in this event last year and is trying to make it all the way to the final table this time. Jason ends his day with 80,000.

James Dorrance has a humbled, gentlemanly demeanor and is a favorite at his table. Dorrance will start day two with 67,200. He has had quite a career with a half million in career earnings, two titles, and some pretty impressive casino cashes.

A few other noteworthy players that are at the top of the chip counts at the end of day one are Talesh Patel at 158,500, Matt Stout at 147,700, Sam Greenwood at 107,700 and Antonio Esfandiari with 93,500.

Players who where eliminated from the tournament before the end of Day 1 include John Gale, Garrett Greer, Chris Moorman, Allen Kessler, Matt Salsberg, Kathy Liebert, Andy Black, and Matt Waxman.

One of the bigger stacks of the tournament so far belongs to Kyle White.

The board reads       and the eight seat bets 18,400. White takes some time before reraising to 58,000. The eight seat folds and White stacks more chips and might end the night as the chip leader thanks to his reraise.

Garrett Greer had been riding the short stack for most of the second half of the day, pushing all in once or twice a level. Most of the time he didn't get called, but he just was, and was sent home just short of Day 2.

Greer pushes all in for his last 8,500 in late position, and Sam Greenwood looks him up in the big blind. Greer's    are slightly ahead of the    of Greenwood, but that changes when the flop comes    . Greer is looking for a four and a four only, but the board completes   on the turn and   on the river. Greer wishes the table luck on his way out, while Greenwood has cracked the six figure mark late in the night.

David Peters raises it up to 2,200 on the button, and it folds to David "ODB" Baker. He slides out a tower of 1,000 chips, enough to put Peters all in. The young pro tanks for a bit before calling, and sees the bad news when the cards are tabled.

The flop hits Peters pretty well, coming down    . Peters can now win with a club or a seven, but neither of those outs come, as the turn is the  , and the river the  . Baker collects the pot, upping his stack to nearly 80,000.

Nacho Barbero and James Dorrance have accumulated a lot of chips through Day 1.

The two players are eyeing the board of      and Barbero leads for 2,500.

Dorrance raises to 12,500 and Barbero calls.

The river is the   and Barbero checks to Dorrance, Dorrance bets 20,000. Barbero calls and Dorrance shows a nine-high straight with   , Barbero shows a jack-high straight with    and wins the pot, giving him the big stack at the table at 140,000.

"Yes, I looked," says Esfandiari.

The table folds around and Esfandiari is heads up with the nine seat with   . The ten seat is behind, holding   .

The board runs out       and Esfandiari wins the pot, eliminating the nine seat.

Jason Faircloth has put Matt Salsberg to a decision, and from the looks of it, not a very easy one.

On a board of      Faircloth shoves to put Salsberg all in. Salsberg spends nearly four minutes in the tank, before deciding to call and showing   . Faircloth has    and is in the lead with two pair, nines and fives.

Salsberg needs help from the river, but the   isn't the help he was looking for and he is eliminated.

Jesse Sylvia and another opponent get all the chips in the middle, with the short stack at risk for about 17,000. Sylvia tables   , and he is racing against the    of his opponent. Sylvia shoots out to the lead on a flop of    , and he is looking to dodge a queen for the knockout. The board runs out   and  , and Sylvia collects the bounty to up his stack to 58,000.

Derek and Angel Farrington come to the WSOP every year to celebrate their wedding anniversary. This year Angel won them both spots in today's $1,000 No Limit Hold em event.

"She won both our spots in the satellites," says Derek, "she's beat me in this one too."

Derek busted earlier in the evening and is cheering Angel on from the rail. Angel has 28,000 chips with 80 spots to go before the money and about an hour and twenty minutes to go until she makes Day 2.

The couple's anniversary is on June 11th, which Derek jokingly doubled checked with Angel about. There is a tough field remaining, but Angel and Derek are optimistic.

Sam Greenwood raises it up to 2,000 under the gun, and Jordan Cristos three-bets to 6,800 a couple seats over. It folds back around to Greenwood, and after about 30 seconds in the tank, Greenwood moves all in, having Cristos covered. Cristos makes the call, and it's a classic coin flip.

Greenwood shoots out to a lead when the flop comes    . Cristos is looking for a nine and a nine only, but the board completes   and  , giving Greenwood an unnecessary full house. Cristos slides his stack over to Greenwood, and heads for the rail, while the Canadian pro is now up to 70,000.

Seat four raises to 1,700 from middle position. Evan Schwartz three bets to 4,000. Seat four pushes all in. Schwartz calls and shows   . Seat four also has a pocket pair and shows   . Another 20 minute break, to color up before the final two levels of the day. Among the 300 or so players left are: Antonio Esfandiari, Jason Wheeler, is among the chip leaders, Jessica Dawley, and Matt Salsberg.

This still plenty of time for players to build their stacks in the final two levels and hit Day 2 strong, or bust and move on. We will find out after the break

Antonio Esfandiari raises it up to 1,275 from early position, and he is called by the cutoff and the big blind. The flop comes down    , and the big blind checks to Esfandiari, who fires out 1,875. The cutoff folds, but the big blind tags along to see the   hit the turn. Both players knuckle this time, and the   hits the river. This time, the big blind fires out 2,900, and the second those chips hit the felt, Esfandiari tosses out a chip, signifying a call.

The big blind nods and tables    for just a pair of fives, while Esfandiari rolls over    for a straight. With that, Esfandiari is back up to 55,000.

The players are now taking their final break of the day so that the floor staff can color up the green 25 chips. Play will resume at 11:50, with two more levels tonight.

Antonio Esfandiari raises under the gun to 1,325 and Adam Manoukian calls from the big blind.

The flop is     and Manoukian checks to Esfandiari who bets 1,875, Manoukian calls.

The turn is  , again Manoukian checks to Esfandiari. This time he bets 3,325 and Manoukian calls.

The river is the   and Manoukian checks for a third time. Esfandiari takes a moment to measure his options and, as he is pushing in a 20 stack of yellow chips says, "all in."

Manoukian snap calls, faster than Esfandiari can finish the phrase, and turns over   .

"Wow, snap huh," says Esfandiari who mucks his hand.

Manoukian wins the pot and doubles up.

Two players are all in. The board shows    . Justin Faircloth decides to call. The two players have pocket kings and ace, king. Faircloth turns over pocket queens for a set on the flop. The turn comes   which fills faircloth up. The river comes  . Faircloth has both players covered. He sends both players to the rail and sails over the 100,000 mark.

The last table in the bronze section has just broken, meaning that this $1,000 event is being played out solely in the silver and blue sections of the Brasilia. The clock says 396 players left, which means there are just under 200 players left to lose before they hit the money. It is unlikely that will happen tonight, but with three more levels left to play, it's certainly possible.
